5 Must-See Places When You’re in Petra

On a beautiful morning, with a tinge of sunbeam in your face, you find yourself in the Rose City. How gorgeous feeling would that be?   • Al Khazneh also popularly known as “The Treasury” is one of the most elaborate temples of ancient Arab, created by the Nabataean kingdom. Similar to all monasteries, this is too made of sandstone cutting. A place attracted by tourist almost all the year round.
  • Siq another ancient Nabataean creation was the main entrance to the city. Siq also known as Siqit is a narrow gorge outlet. It is around 3 meters high and twists its way for 1.2 km approx and opens up to a wide valley known as Bab as-Siq.
  • Al Beidah – a UNESCO heritage created again by the Nabataean civilization in the north of Petra. It is truly a historical place in true sense. The excavation was first made by Diana Kirkbride in 1957. In this excavation, the tourists can experience the existence of three occupational periods from 11th millennium BC to 1st or 2nd century BC. The first stage was the Natufian period; the second was the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period and finally the Nabataean period.
  • The royal tomb – one of the highest ancient monuments built on the mountain side is an awestruck creation of the tribes. Tourists require climbing many stairs to reach the top of this tomb. History says that this was made for the Nabataean king, Malchus II. The creation has such diverse sculpting that it can bore no tourist.
  • Byzantine Church well known for its sacred tourists is an ancient church of Petra built meters ahead of the colonnaded street near the Winged Lions temple. The peace and serenity that is provided to the visitor are what bring them back every time they visit Jordan

Apart from visiting the distinct historical places, walking around the pink city makes you explore the impressive monument. The carvings are not decorated at all, but they are no less than being decorated. It gives you a feeling of customized decoration.
