6 Affordable Ways to Experience Malaysia

Malaysia is an exotic place where many ethnic groups have been living together in peace for several years. Multi cultural nature, technological advancements and lively, bold, culture has made it one of the most visited places in Asia. If you're itching for a vacation, but just don't quite have the finances to afford it yet, here's 6 ways to make it possible!

Accommodation – The Affordable Way:

While private rooms cost around $15, dorms are relatively cheaper on the spectrum with $7-15 per night. So it is best to avoid going for the most expensive, glitziest hotel in the city, and go for a dorm room that will cost you half the price.

Travel – The Affordable Way:

If the air ticket's price looks daunting to you (and we don't blame you!), an alternative is to buy frequent flyer miles at a fraction of the cost that the airlines would charge you. Frequent flyer miles or “points” can be purchased from a variety of websites such as The Mileage Club, which provides quick and convenient miles purchase.

Attractions – Light On The Pocket:

Most Malaysian attractions are fairly cheap; for example: Mari Mari, a cultural village in the area which aims to showcase the lives of the tribal people of Sabah. The visitors are also invited to join in the educational and informational activities, all without extra payment. Food is also on the house, so the audience doesn't have to spend an astronomical amount of money on culinary items.

Trekking, being a popular sport, due to the lush terrains and hills costs around $10-16 per day. People can visit Kota Kinabalu National Park to trek along the rough terrain of Mount Kota Kinabula. The hike is considered as very energizing and without a heavy weight on the pocket.

Alongside, the cultural experience, Malaysia sports a living museum that presents the heritage and life of the racial groups in Sarawak: Malays, Chinese and Indians have been living here peacefully for hundreds of years.

Malaysia's greenery and sparkling waters house a lot of different species including some of this planet's most rare and endangered animals that are a treat for anyone to see. During hiking or on tour, the visitor can see Orangutans, Malaysian tigers, Monitor Lizards, Sumatran Rhinos and experience the wildlife up close and personal.

Local Transportation:

Local transportation is readily available; however, taxis do tend to charge a lot more in Malaysia than anywhere else since they are not metered. To avoid paying a huge fare, it is imperative to bargain a set price or take the local bus which is relatively cheaper.

Local street food:

Malaysia has a rich gastronomical culture, and sports many street stalls that dot the streets and lanes. The food is cheap, delicious and ample in quantity – some locals may even agree that the street food is better than the food prepared in the high end restaurants and hotels. The local delicacies offer a glimpse into the real lives of the Malaysian people and it would certainly allow you to experience Malaysian food in all its entirety and originality.

Abstinence From Drinking:

Alcohol is certainly not cheap in Malaysia, the reason may primarily be because Malaysia is a pre dominantly Muslim country, and drinking is restricted but not illegal. However, it is best to save the drinking part and utilize the money for something else.
