8 Historical Places to Visit in India

India is known for its history and that is because of the architecture and monuments which hold the meaning to the past events that happened. So many of such buildings have been part of the history and thus to preserve the importance they hold great importance. The Taj Mahal in Agra, The forts in Rajasthan and monuments in Delhi are especially some of the main cities which hold the key of such historical places.

1) The Taj Mahal, Agra
Situated in the city of Agra, Taj Mahal is not only just a beautiful monument but also has great historical relevance related to it. The significance this monument holds will captivate and enchant you further into the aura of its beauty. Shah Jahan's love for Mumtaz and his passion for giving her the ultimate gift is a must visit place when coming to India.
2) Red Fort, Delhi
Red fort in India was the place the mughal emperor lived for 200 years. Located in the old Delhi this monument has been listed in the UNESCO world heritage site. The fort consists of multiple museums consisting of the mughal period relics. This place can easily be accessed by car hire in Delhi.
3) Qutub Minar, Delhi
Standing 73m long as the world's tallest brick minaret, Qutub Minar was built by the emperor Qutub-ud-din Aibak to celebrate the fall of Hindu reign and the beginning of mughal kingdom in Delhi. It is listed in the world heritage site for its fine architecture in red and buff sandstone.
4) Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
Also known as palace of the winds this historical site was built in such a way that the walls were constructed with 'jharokhas' that is small windows. The multi storey palace was built this way to give the royal females a chance to see the world without disclosing their own self. Almost all Rajasthan tours cover this spot for its history and architecture.

5) Humayun's Tomb, Delhi
This tomb which has been included in the UNESCO world heritage site is one of the best tombs built during mughal rule. This tomb was built with the Persian architecture and commissioned by Humayun's son Akbar in 1569-70.
6) Fatehpur Sikri, Agra
Fatehpur Sikri fort is a grand fort which was built when Fatehpur Sikri was made as the capital of the Mughal Empire during the reign of Emperor Akbar. The Sikri city was also known as the city of victory and therefore this fort hold historical relevance in India.
7) Jantar Mantar, Delhi
Being of the five sights built by Maharaja Jai Singh this site consists of 13 astronomical instruments. Jantar Mantar is one of the instruments which was used to measure time during that time.
8) Sanchi Stupa, Madhya Pradesh
Located in Sanchi town this is the oldest and the best taken cared stupa in Central India. Built by Ashoka in around 283BCE it is also listed in the world heritage site by UNESCO.
