When visiting the UK most people are drawn to the bigger, more traditional hubs – London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham to name a few. Cambridge – located in the county of Cambridgeshire in the east of the UK – has many unique and charming features of its own that make it a city well worth visiting.

One thing that the city certainly is not short of is impressive, historic architecture. Wimpole Hall is a great example of this; set in 3000 acres of unspoiled park and farm land, this is a day out that everybody can enjoy. As you arrive on the estate, a sense of grandeur will immediately hit you; impressive oak trees stand tall and rare breed cattle roams free. Although the mansion itself was bequeathed to the national trust around 1976, it certainly does not strike you as a show home and the breath-taking Georgian interiors are certain to keep traditionalists happy. The attraction is open to the public year round although opening times do vary; a family ticket to the estate will set you back around 40.

Boasting one of the finest examples of late Gothic British architecture, the King's College building & Chapel is an official college of the University of Cambridge another must see. Construction of the chapel began in 1446 and was not completed until 1531 when the large stained glass windows were fitted; the windows are regarded as some of if not the best examples in the world from the era. The building is still home to a functional education establishment so it is advisable to check public opening times before visiting.

If you're more of an animal person, then the first thing on your to-do list should be to visit Shepreth Wildlife Park. The park – which is set in natural grounds – is home to an array of animals from Hedgehogs to Tigers. Along with general admission, the park also offer unique experience days where – among other things – you can fly birds of prey, gain access to the meerkat house and even assist in feeding the Tigers! The park is open from 10am-5pm daily and is open year round.

There is a number of interesting museums and galleries around, but none more impressive than Oliver Cromwell's house. Military and political leader Oliver Cromwell who was king in all but name lived in the house for roughly ten years. The house has been recreated to give a realistic insight into life in the 17th century as well as providing information on Oliver Cromwell himself. If that isn't enough excitement for you, some say you can still feel the presence of Cromwell himself within the confines of the house…

Family entrance costs 13; the attraction is open all year round although summer and winter opening hours do vary.

Another great source of entertainment within the city of Cambridge is Cambridge Arts Theater It holds a mixture of drama, comedy, pantomime, dance and music. Throughout the year there is no doubt there will be something that everybody can enjoy.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of activities to do in and around Cambridge, it is merely meant as encouragement to visit the beautiful city. The city has plenty to offer both indoors and outdoors and is well worth a visit.
