History of Nairobi National Park
Started in 1946, and being the very first park in Nairobi, this is the oldest national park in African continent. The history is dates back to 1946, when settlers from England arrived and moved the animals to the Southern and Eastern part of the city. Eventually the animals started vanishing from and few of the rare species became extinct. Mervyn Cowie initiated the campaign for the development of a protected park. Soon the plan was finalized and it became official. Mervyn Cowie was appointed the director of the parks service.
The Topography
The is stretches to an area of around 28,963 acres. This is indeed less than the other national parks of Africa. This is fenced on the East, North and western boundaries. The weather of the park is relatively dry and hot from the month of January till March. In April, the onset of the rainy season begins and it lasts till June. The atmosphere during the rainy season is similar to spring with cool mornings and evenings and occasional rain showers in between. The rains abate from June onwards and the weather becomes cold.
Wildlife Safari in Nairobi
The best place to locate a rhino in Africa is the Nairobi National Park. One can see a ton of black rhinos even on the first day of the visit. The growling lions, laughing hyenas, running giraffes and setting sun in the evenings, together tantamount to a bewitching sight. The undulating landscapes, the elephant families at the water ponds, dancing monkeys, running rivers and soaring mountains and the dense forests, all make us acquainted with the savage side of nature. There are around 400 widespread and migratory birds that cross the boundaries of the park.
One can also visit the Animal Orphanage which is just at the entrance of the park where one can see the king of the jungle, Simba and could even hear it roar, or could spot the cheetah and the several other animals. The best part is that you can adopt a baby animal and could see him being fed and grow, till the time he is released to live at the main park. You can be in regular touch with the authorities of the park to get updates about the adopted animal.

The park is open to the visitors, all the year round. The fee of the park is cheaper than the other National Parks of Kenya and it also promises to keep you entertained throughout your visit.
