Airport Mistakes You Should Not Make Prior to Your Flight

Hanging Around at the Gate Desk When your Flight is cancelled

In case your flight has been cancelled, don't lose hope. The best way of managing an off-schedule flight is to contact the airline while waiting at the ticket desk line. You will probably be able to quickly reach someone on the phone. In this way, you do not have to deal with the stressed out agent who has handled numerous peeved travelers.

Expecting a Few People during Peak Days

Peak days mean larger crowds, stressful parking and drop-off situations as well as longer waiting at security checkpoints. So, plan beforehand. Generally, crowds are at their peak during Monday mornings and Friday afternoons since the bulk of business travels take place on these days. Fridays are even busier during summer because of recreational travel. As always, expect the biggest crowds on the eve of Thanksgiving and the Sunday that follows. Obviously, the busiest week of travel happens between the eve of Christmas and New Year's Day, wherein the quantity of long-distance travelers increases by 23% as per the Department of Transportation.

Not Visiting the Airport Lounge When There is a Long Layover

For those who seldom fly, it is not practical to spend several-hundred annual fees often related to airline lounges. However, during a long layover, it might be worth buying a daily pass. There are 1-day passes for the United Club, Sky Club and Admirals Club, all for $60 at the most. You can enjoy amenities such as complimentary snacks, drinks, shower suites and Wi-Fi.

Not Checking In Early

In addition to saving more precious time at the airport, checking in early allows you to make some bonus miles and help you get a better seat.

Upgrading to First Class to Prevent Motion Sickness

It may seem like a smart idea to upgrade to first class at the last minute, specially when you frequently feel sick during flights but you can always occupy the seats at the middle part of the plane since they are best for people who have motion sickness. Think of a plane as a seesaw. You wouldn't move too much when you are in the middle.

Not Checking Airport Monitors for Flight Schedule Updates

You can always sign up for flight-status updates once you can check in to your flight and receive them on you Smartphone but you should not rely on them as your only source. If you want the most recent information, check the airport monitors. Make sure to check them before you enter the gate that leads you to the other part of the facility.

Packing Liquids Hidden Deep Within Your Carry On

If you want to easily go past the security checkpoints, pack liquids (3.4 ounces at the most, certainly placed inside a 1-quart Ziploc bag) inside the outer pocket of your carry-on. The same is true with tablets and laptops. Go to the TSA's website to check the complete list of items -included on the no-fly list and tips to quickly get through security.
