Amsterdam The Ultimate And Sophisticated Business Trip Guide

Amsterdam, with its fast, efficient travel network and connections to the rest of Europe,is an international business hub, so it’s hardly surprising that the city is primed and ready to service their many business travellers. From a breath-taking array of international hotels targeting high-end professionals, to excellent transport links and meeting facilities, the city is a great place to do business.

Amsterdam

Here’s my guide to everything you need to know for a smooth, productive trip to the city.

Getting There

Flying into Amsterdam couldn’t be easier with more than 30 flights leaving from the UK and landing in the Netherlands’ most famous city every day. The flight time from the London airports is around an hour and the transfer into the city is centre is half an hour by airport taxi. Schiphol Airport is a major European hub and is busy throughout the year so it’s well worth booking an airport transfer in advance rather than wasting time queuing for a taxi when you arrive.

Schiphol Airport

Set just on the outskirts of the city, the airport is conveniently close to many of the major hotels by airport taxi. Schiphol also has a lot to offer to business travellers just passing through, or with only a day to spend in the city before flying out again. With free wifi in the terminals and a premium network available for an extra charge, you can start work the moment you land. If you’re looking for a secure network there is a useful Internet Lounge with desks to use and, if you just want to relax, there are sleep rooms, an express spa and even a meditation centre.

Where to Eat

If time is short and you want to impress clients then it’s worth booking one of the city’s excellent restaurants in which to wine and dine them. There’s a vast array of fantastic, fine dining options in the city but one which will never fail to make a good impression is the centrally located Brasserie Ambassade. Elegant French cuisine is served in the refined dining room with views out over the canal, or you could meet for drinks and a spot of business before you eat in the tasteful Library Bar. There’s even a private dining room if your business is of a sensitive nature or you’d just prefer not to be overheard.

Where to Stay

The NH Amsterdam Zuid is a great choice if you’re looking for somewhere in the city’s business district and only a short ride by airport taxi. Schiphol Airport is 20 minute’s from the hotel and you’ll be at the heart of Amsterdam’s Financial Mile. The facilities are excellent with a 24-hour business centre and a range of meeting rooms available. Executive rooms have desks with ergonomic chairs so you can work in comfort (not to mention Nespresso machines for extra fuel in case you need to work late).

Amsterdam is a wonderful business destination putting you in direct contact with the rest of Europe and, at only an hour away from London, is actually easier to get to than Manchester or Leeds.
