If you’re anything like me, you can’t head off on a trip without packing a whole range of gadgets and gear, from cameras to phones and tablets. This technology enhances our experiences abroad, however, having these expensive pieces of tech in rooms and luggage, along with cash and cards, leaves us all vulnerable to theft.
Today I am sharing some steps you can take to protect your valuables from thieves, as well as recommending all-inclusive travel insurance so you can make a claim in the event something does get stolen.
Wallet Worries
There are several reasons we worry about the whereabouts of our wallets. Often, when you’re travelling abroad, you carry quite a bit of cash or important documents in your wallet or purse. On top of this, you are likely to have credit or debit cards, and with RFID skimming – theft using wireless transmitters to get access to your card identification chips – thieves can steal money from your accounts, or take your identity, without the cards leaving your pocket.
To combat this new type of theft, invest in an RFID-Blocking wallet as these protect your cards from wireless signals.
Pacsafe Bags
Even though your cards are protected, it is a good idea to keep your wallet, along with other valuables, such as a phone or camera, in a theft-proof bag.
I can recommend Pacsafe bags. These roomy bags can fit lots of useful items – maps, guidebook, water, camera, even a laptop or tablet. However, they also have many great safety features. For example, the zips can be locked, there is an RFID pocket for any cards you might be carrying, and the strap is slash proof.
Look After Your Luggage
You should keep your most important items on you at all times, however, you still don’t want anyone searching through your suitcase to see what they can find. Luggage can be particularly vulnerable when left in your accommodation or on the racks of public transport. What should you do?
- Lock Them – Luggage locks are not particularly strong, but they will deter a casual thief looking for an easy target.
- Track Them – Sometimes you do have to let your luggage out of your sight, so why not purchase trackers so you can keep an eye on your bags all the time.
All-inclusive Travel Insurance
No matter how well you prepare yourself to deal with light-fingered pickpockets or unforeseen accidents, you might end up having something stolen or damaged when you’re away. If you didn’t take out all-inclusive travel insurance before you left home, this can leave you high and dry. You are unlikely to see your valuables again and you won’t be able to replace them easily.
However, if you take out a good, all-inclusive travel insurance policy before you leave home, you will be able to make a claim and replace your lost items in no time – leaving you ready to head off on your next adventure.
Now you’ve read these handy tips you’re prepared for anything. Enjoy your next adventure with peace of mind – bon voyage!
