Auckland, Where Land and Water Meet in Spectacular Fashion

If you are a boating enthusiast you definitely need to look at flights to Auckland. Auckland is the city of beaches and boats, where almost all the population has their own boats. As the capital of New Zealand, Auckland is also called “the City of Sails”. It has a 100 km coastline dotted with enticing beaches where one can indulge in all sorts of water-related activities. Auckland is the gateway to New Zealand and is located in the North Island. Visitors first land in and then make their way to the other cities. Besides its popularity for boating activities in Auckland is also famous for its volcanoes. Around 48 volcano cones dot the city and prove a big tourist attraction. As a city, Auckland is generally divided into 4 sections – North, South, East and West. This is due to the different cultures and activities which prevail in each section. Known as the jewel in Auckland's crown is the Hauraki Gulf composed of a group of beautiful islands. The most popular islands are the Great Barrier Island, Rangitoto & Motutapu, Kawau Island, and Waiheke Island. If you are a wine and food connoisseur you can make tracks in the northern areas of which are known for producing quality wine and food. Towns like Silverdale and Albany, Whangaparaoa Pensiular and Devonport, Birkenhead are also interesting places to visit. Auckland can boast of the largest concentration of Polynesian people worldwide. Besides English other languages that will greet you on a visit to are Maori, Polynesian and a few Asian languages. The Polynesian community is mostly settled in South. Places of interest would be Awhitu Peninsula, Mangere, Manukau and Pukeohe. If you move on to East you will find the sweeping coastline along which you will find boutique wineries, producers of gourmet food and the famous pohutukawa trees. Interesting sites to visit would be Howick, Clevedon and the Pohutukawa Coast. West Auckland has more primitive scenery with its black volcanic sand, native forests and the Tasman Sea hitting the coast with its gigantic waves. The Waitakere Ranges, Helensville, Piha and Woodhill Forest can be visited by tourists as buses and ferry services are available to all these sites.
