Austin’s Barton Creek Greenbelt

Rare is an Austinite who does not love the outdoors. From hiking and biking to climbing and caving, Austin explorers do it all at the beloved Barton Creek Greenbelt. Beginning at Zilker Park and ending in Westlake's Lost Creek subdivision, the Greenbelt is a 7.25 mile track of land owned by the city's parks and recreation department. Its limestone cliffs, swimming holes, and foliage-lined trails make it an excellent place to enjoy all types of outdoor activities.

Many prefer to explore the Greenbelt on foot, winding through the wooded trails alone or with a canine companion. If you're into rock-climbing, the limestone walls and cliffs located throughout make ideal climbing spots. Mountain bikers find the Greenbelt's diverse terrain challenging but worth it for the scenery alone.

Austin's warm weather make sports such as swimming, tubing, and kayaking popular Greenbelt activities as well. Ideal swimming conditions depend on annual precipitation levels, so Austinites look forward to a plentiful rainy season during the spring. Some of the more popular spots to swim and lounge along the Greenbelt include Twin Falls, Campbell's Hole, Gus Fruh, and Sculpture Falls.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is located in Southwest Austin and can be easily accessed off Loop 360. Just a few minutes from Southwest and Central Austin neighborhoods, it is a great place to enjoy a sunny spring day. If you're interested in learning more about living near the Greenbelt or other great attractions in Southwest Austin, why not take a look at property listings in Southwest Austin?
