Bhutan is a landlocked country and a popular Buddhist kingdom. It lies at the eastern foothills of the Himalayas, between northern India and Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR). A few decades back, the beauty of this place was acknowledged by its habitants only as it had stringent rules and regulations regarding tourism. However now, people from all across the globe can easily explore the mesmerising beauty of this place. The government of the country made several relaxations in its policies that helped boosting the tourism business. It includes simpler rules regarding visa and addition of accommodation and transport facilities for the convenience of travellers. The number of airlines offering cheap tickets to Bhutan has increased significantly in the last few years. Most countries offer direct or connecting flights to Paro from their primary hubs. Now, travellers can easily reach this place for a soothing getaway or adventurous trip with their friends and family.
People who want to visit this country from India can avail services of Delhi Paro flights operated by its flag carrier Drukair. Operating under the Drukair Corporation Limited, this airline primarily serves domestic destinations. It commenced operations in 1983 with the first flight on Kolkata and Paro route. Currently, it operates to more than 10 destinations located in the South Asian region. In addition to Delhi, other Indian destinations like Mumbai, Kolkata and Guwahati can be opted for boarding the flight to Paro, but the former one is the most convenient option; it being the national capital of India. Hence, a direct flight from this city is the most efficient way to ensure that maximum number of travellers can avail this service.
Delhi
Delhi is one of the most populated cities of the country, showcasing the unique combination of contemporary India and glimpses of the Islamic and British Era at the same time. Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is located in New Delhi, and it has three terminals dedicated for national and international operations. Domestic flights take a halt or are operated from Terminal 1C and 1D. Most of them are operated by SpiceJet, GoAir and IndiGo. Terminal 3, primarily used by global operators is one of the largest terminals in the world. So, people going to Bhutan may have to board their flight from here. India-based carriers, Air India and Jet Airways also have booked several slots for their international operations over here. They will soon be joined by Vistara that has made prior bookings for various slots at this terminal for operations. Recently, two SKYTRAX – World Airport Awards were given, in addition to Russian Public Transport Honor.
Paro
Air travel is comparatively a newer concept in Bhutan when compared to regions like America and Europe. Hence, the number of airports is also relatively less, and among them, Paro International Airport is the busiest one. The only international airport of the country is situated at an elevation of around 2235 metres. As per reports, it is considered as one of the most challenging terminals to operate because of the lofty peaks. There are two terminals; one Cargo and Passenger terminal served by Drukair only. With the increasing popularity of Bhutan among travellers, it is expected that other carriers may soon book slots at this terminal.
