Botswana Safari Coming Up

When you think of a safari you generally do think of Africa but do you think of a specific spot in Africa or do you think of East Africa or Southern Africa? Well there are a lot of places to visit and many things to see if you go on a safari to Africa, including a Botswana Safari.

Another thing that probably comes to mind when you think of a safari is wild animals, lots of them including elephants, lions, tigers, or hyenas to name a few. You would be right on that. On a Botswana Safari you might be able to see elephants because the largest population of elephants in Africa is located in Botswana. Also the largest elephant in the world lives there. This is the Kalahari elephant which is found in Botswana specifically in the Kalahari Desert which is one of the driest places on the earth and sometimes it doesn't rain there for fifteen years.

If you are thinking of going on a safari to Botswana there are a lot of choices where you could stop and visit. Botswana itself is divided into 16 districts ten of which are rural and six of them are urban. The size of Botswana is a little smaller than Texas, USA. It is a land locked area located in South Africa. It is mostly flat and approximately 70 percent of it is covered with the Kalahari Desert. It is a major tourist destination including the travel group being defined as eco tourists.

The actual definition of safari is journey of hunting expedition especially in Africa. It may also be called the caravan of the journey or hunting expedition. Very often this type of expedition is a tailor made overland expedition. But a Botswana Safari may also be an expedition as part of a group. Some of these safaris are limited to the number of people that may be on a specific expedition. Others require there be a certain number who sign up before they will make the expedition.

A safari to any part of Africa would generally be a trip that may take from six days to about three weeks and any other combination in between or longer. You could take this trip by land vehicle or in combination with a boat trip where there is a body of water nearby. There also flying safaris where the pilot is also the guide. This would be the way to go if you want to access remote areas where you maybe don't want to spend entire days travelling on gravel roads in the remote areas.

The various game reserves or national parks are popular tourist destinations. However there are also places where you can take a safari which are leased or owned lands. You should be in decent physical shape if you decide to take a safari especially if you go the standard lodging route where you will have to stay in a tent and take a night hike to use the facilities.
