Cancellation And Money Return Policy of Indian Railways

One of the most regular queries of the rail passengers have now is regarding train ticket cancellation charges and refund regulations. Indian Railways carries over two crore passengers on a daily basis. Under common circumstances no refund is granted on confirmed. With the outcome from 12.11.2015, certain conditions of Railway Passengers Rules have been amended.

The purpose of the new amended in the Railway passengers refund rules are to stop the scope of exploitation, to make it easy for the passengers with mobile ticketing/recommended paperless ticketing etc., to put off the agents on black marketing of Railway tickets etc. Here are the rules of Train Ticket Cancellation and Refund policies:

If a confirmed ticket is presented for deletion up to 48 hours before the planned departure of the train, per passenger least cancellation charge is imposed.

If a confirmed ticket is presented for cancellation between 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, 25% of the cancellation charges are imposed to minimum flat cancellation charge.

If a confirmed ticket is presented for cancellation in between 12 hours and up to 4 hours before the programmed departure of the train, irrespective of distance, 50% of the cancellation charge is imposed to minimum flat cancellation charge.

Repayment on confirmed ticket is granted only up to 4 hours before the programmed departure of the train.

When RAC or the Waiting listed tickets are presented for cancellation, the refund of fare minus clerk age charge is made up to 30 minutes before the programmed departure of the train.

The e-tickets should be cancelled throughout internet and the refund of fare will be credited to the account from which the booking transaction took place, after deducting the appropriate charges.

If the journey is not undertaken due to late running of train by more than three hours of scheduled departure then there is no cancellation charge is imposed and complete fare is refunded to passengers holding confirmed, RAC and Waiting listed

Filing of TDR or ticket deposit receipt is not necessary in case of cancellation of trains, for e-tickets, a regular refund is granted.

Under the active rules, no refund is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. If a train is running late by more than three hours or the train is cancelled, passengers can file TDR with appropriate reason for claiming refund.

Fare Class

Allocation

Reservation Status

Cancellation Time

Train Delay (if arises)

Indian Railways is the backbone of the long distance public transportation system in the country. The Ministry of Railways said that the latest rules are to help authentic passengers and to stop the possibility of misuse of ticketing activity by devious elements. The new rules have been notified and affected from 12th November, 2015.
