You can also visit the Academy of Natural Sciences and Franklin Institute of Science Museum. The Eastern State Penitentiary was constructed in 1829 for rehabilitating criminals. The Valley Forge Historical Park is another must-see.

Besides the historical places, there are many popular tourist attractions in Philadelphia. These include the Reading Terminal Market which is an enclosed food paradise. Have fun at the Philadelphia Zoo which is housed in 42 acres of Greenland and the Elmwood Park Zoo with over 200 wild animals. If you want to see horticulture in art form, visit the Longwood Gardens which has spectacular arrangements and colorful displays. Show your kids the Betsy Ross House, the place where the American Flag was first made. The Mutter Museum will interest those who are scientifically-inclined; skeletal formations and other anatomically strange items can be seen here. The Battleship New Jersey is the nation's pride and is well-preserved. The Barnes Foundation contains incredible paintings of famous artists.

There are some places to visit in Philadelphia in the year 2017; on 19th of April, the Museum of American Revolution will open its doors to the public. You can see an extensive collection of manuscripts, printed works and art from the American Revolutionary Period. If you are in the city towards the end of April, you can witness the staging of the 82nd NFL Draft along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Sports fans can reach out to former and current players for autographs. The Bartram's Mile is a historic multi-use path that is being expanded and will open in the month of April this year. Travel with your kids to the LEGOLAND at the Discovery Center that will feature interactive games with LEGO bricks.
