Are you stuck on deciding wear to visit on your next holiday, this year? We may be able to help you out and make a suggestion. Have you ever been to or considered Thailand? Specifically, it’s vibrant and bustling Capital City of Bangkok?
OK, so South-East Asia is a long old way away from most of Europe if that’s where you’ll be flying from, though we can assure you that the long-haul will almost certainly be worth it in the long-run!
It doesn’t matter who you are or where you from, Bangkok certainly has something to pique all interests. Whether you’re into your high-street shopping, you’ve an interest in sight-seeing and exploration, you want to explore the city’s vibrant and world-renowned night-life; or you’d simply enjoy perusing the local markets, lounging around in a nice hotel bar or relaxing by the pool – Bangkok has it all.
What really sets Bangkok apart, is the fact that from the very moment you touch down your senses are pulled in a thousand different directions. OK, so it might not be for everyone, but there is a certain charm to be found amidst the honking of horns, the bright lights and the cacophony of laughter, merchants calling and beautiful women trying to entice you in for a traditional full-body Thai massage.
And no, that’s not a warning about the cleanliness of street-food. In actual fact, the streets of Bangkok is are brimming with little, busy foods-stalls peddling all manner of weird and wonderful cuisine. Many people are put off by the fact that you’re sat on a plastic stool by the road-side though if you turn your nose up at that you’ll be depriving yourself of a most unmissable taste sensation.
I’ve eaten in a few world-class restaurants in Thailand, (of which there are many) though there is a lot to be said about the street stalls and markets of Bangkok. If you’re not excited about the boundless variety of excursions, sights and other treats that Bangkok has to offer then the world-class cuisine will surely grab your attention!
There are many lovely people in this world, just as every country has their select few that let the side down – though the Thai’s are in a league of their own. Of course, I’m not going to sit here and tell you that you won’t encounter the odd moody local; or that crime in Thailand doesn’t exist – though for the most part the Thai’s are amazing.
They don’t call it the land of smiles for no reason: Thailand prides itself on its world-renowned hospitality and it is something that everybody should experience. You will meet a colourful variety of wonderful people who will do absolutely anything they can to ensure that you have the best possible stay in Thailand. Tipping isn’t essential, though it is often expected, even if it’s just the odd 20 baht note, which roughly equates to 30-40 pence. That’s not to say that if you don’t tip that you won’t be treated with respect, but Thailand was built on tourism and it’s a small price to pay for such a wonderful and courteous treatment.
One of the major benefits for travelling to Thailand is that you can do so on any budget. If you’re rolling in it you can enjoy some of the most extravagant and ‘out there’ hotels and private villas imaginable. That being said; if you’re on a tight budget there are plenty of charming and suitable places for those who are looking to spend as little as possible so as to stay in Thailand for longer.
But then again, there are a wealth of stunning 4/5-star hotels that are incredibly well-priced, affordable for those who aren’t even particularly that well off.
When I first went to Thailand, (which is going back a few years I must admit) I didn’t have a huge amount of money to my name, but it went very far in Bangkok. For the most part I stayed in hostels, though I was also able to occasionally enjoy some truly extravagant accommodation.
Most modern hotels are fitted with all of the amenities that one could need, including free Wi-Fi, and most important of all; a swimming pool. These can be enjoyed at the most reasonable of prices, making Bangkok a truly spectacular holiday destination for all!
Of course, I could sit here all day and write out thousands of words about all of the reasons why you should go to Thailand. The truth is, you’re just going to have to take our word on this. Bangkok is famous the world over and with good reason too. You’ll not struggle for things to see and do, it’s literally a cultural cocktail, brimming with awe-inspiring sights and you’ll struggle to find a better city-break quite like it.
