Come over to Waikiki in August for your fun and memorable Hawaii vacation and enjoy lots of outdoors and extracurricular activities in Honolulu as so many exciting events and music concerts are taking place! Some of the events taking place on Oahu in the first half of August are:

August 1-September 5 – Japanese Bon Festival Season

Japanese Bon Festival Season is an important part of the present-day culture and life of Hawaii. Buddhist temples typically celebrate Bon Odori with both religious Obon observances and traditional Bon Odori dancing around a yagura. Many temples also concurrently hold a cultural and food bazaar providing a variety of cuisine and art, also to display features of Japanese culture and Japanese-American history. Performances of taiko by both amateur and professional groups have recently become a popular feature of Bon Odori festivals.

August 4-8 – 47th Annual HAWAIIAN INVITATIONAL WATER POLO TOURNAMENT

Since its inception in 1968, the Hawaiian Invitational Water Polo Tournament has grown to become among the largest and most prestigious water polo tournaments in the United States. Year-in and year-out, the tournament attracts over 100 teams from around the world. Participation is open to a wide range of age-group teams. Historically, the 18 and under girls and boys divisions attract the most competitors, averaging 20 teams each. The second largest are the men's and women's open divisions, usually attracting 10 teams each. Ample time is available during the tournament for your team to experience the beauty and excitement of Oahu. From the majestic and secluded beaches of the North Shore, to the tropical rain forests of the Windward Side, to the non-stop action of Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu, there is something for everyone on the island of Oahu.

August 15 – Sunset Mele on the Rooftop

Screening of Big Hero 6 is a free event. Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets, mats and low-seated lawn chairs to enjoy the music and film. Outside food, beverages and coolers will not be allowed. Live music begins at 6:15pm – movie starts at 9pm at Hawaii Convention Center, 1801 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu. Parking is $5. August 15 – Great Hawaiian Food Truck Festival

Enjoy food from various vendors along Kalakaua Avenue From Lewers Street to Kealohilani Avenue. A portion of proceeds go to charities. 5pm-10pm. Visit https://www.millwoodohanaproductions.com for additional details.

August 15 & 16 – 7th Annual Biggest Little Airshow in Hawaii

For two days, Ford Island will come alive with remote-control flying, static aircraft and full size aircraft on display, “candy bombings” over historic Ford Island Runway for the keiki, hands-on modeling stations, a Kids Zone with rides and activities, open cockpits, and open access to Hangar 79 to see the museum's many aircraft exhibits and Restoration Shop. Local performers and award-winning Mainland pilots from the Academy of Model Aeronautics will perform remote-control aviation feats for two days, flying their massive, 1-to-5 scale planes in the skies above the Museum. 10am-4pm at Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor.
