Eco Tourism in Oslo

Parks and forests cover the almost fifth percent of Oslo in Norway so it is no wonder that people call this town a green city. Oslofjord surrounds the city, and any of the 40 islands can be reached within 10 minutes with a ferry ride from Oslo. Many nature enthusiasts love visiting this place because of all the beauty that can be found in this amazing city. Since it's known as a green city, there are few eco places worth visiting. One of the island closes to the city is Hovedoya Island and it has an amazing heritage, spectacular forests and beaches. There are wonderful beaches located on the west side of the island, which attract many visitors during the summer and there are a lot of places for summer games. Flora and fauna on the one part of island are protected and it's registered as a natural reserve.

On Island you will also see ruins of the Cistercian monastery, built in the 12th century, by English monks. It's also good to know that camping is not permitted and you won't see any summerhouse on Hovedoya Island. Another eco place worth visiting while in Oslo is Ostensjovannet Lake, which is located just 5 kilometers from city center. The tour to this lake will give you an opportunity to experience a rich bird life since this is the home for 200 bird species. Østensjøvannet is a unique wetland and a protected nature reserve. The walk around Østensjøvannet is approximately 4.5 km and the walk around Klopptjern will take approximately 7 km. Walking trails are relatively flat, wide and child friendly; it has only a one small hill. In winter there are ski trails and in the early spring when the snow melts, road can be muddy. For all of you who are interested in eco tourism, Oslo can be great starting point. With all this activities city is offering, you would to need to find a great and beautiful apartment for rent in which you can relax after long walks in the natural reserve. Opera Apartments is located near the city center and offers accommodation that suits just your needs. Short-term apartments in Oslo are fully equipped with everything you need for a perfect vacation.
