Enthralling Attractions Of Ghana

The beautiful and elating country of Ghana is abode to an awesome integration of nature and wild life. An assortment of beaches, landscapes, mountains, animals and bird species exhibits the same. Though being small in size, this country has many beautiful sites which should not be missed by anyone. A visit to few of these is truly a stimulating experience. Nicknamed as the ''Gateway to Africa'', there are many tourist attractions in Ghana which makes it a popular visiting destination. Here are a few to discuss at length:-

Forts and Palaces

Bordered with old forts and castles Ghana's Atlantic Coast has seen the European powers at work during the 17th century and the onset of Transatlantic Slave Trade. Among many forts and castles, the Cape Coast Castle is one of the biggest. Originally used as the trading post for gold and timber industries it was later used as holding station for the American slaves. The Cape Coast Castle is a museum full of information about local culture, history and slave trade of Ghana. The ride inside the castle takes you through the cells and 'door of no return' to get the glimpse of the era.

Deep Sea Fishing

The big game of fishing is offered by the Atlantic Ocean for a wide variety of fishes like the Tuna, marko shark, bluefish, cod, croaker, drum, or stripped bass. Salt water fishing is intriguing in itself as most of the fishes are fabulous fighters and few grow to big sizes even. The easiest to catch and the ones found in plenty are bluefish. The ones with whom fishing is an enjoyable affair are barracudas, drum, shark etc. Some of the species are indeed very good to eat. The saltwater fishes are very rich and offer much for Marlene Tuna Fishing in the whole world. These are mostly available in the cities of Tema and Takoradi.The Volta river is conducive for Inland game fishing.

Canopy Walkway

The dense rain forest in South Ghana is the Kakum National Park, which is a home to more than 40 species of mammals including the meerkats, forest buffalo, elephants, and civets and 250 species of varied bird life. The highlight of the place, undoubtedly is the famous Canopy Walk Way. The stroll on the walk way takes you 100 ft above the ground and stretches to around 1150 in length, including seven tree platforms. As the visitors walk on this suspended bridge, a beautiful breathtaking view awaits them which would have otherwise remained unexplored. The rain forest with a wide range of flora and fauna flaunts a spectacular display of medicinal and unique variety of plants, several animal and bird species, beautiful butterflies, Campbell, Colobus monkeys and Spot nose.

Wild Life Clank

Mole National Park is the Ghana's biggest national park covering an area of 5000 sq. km. The vegetation is conducive to 730 species of flowering plants, and around 90 variety of lions, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, leopards etc. and 300 species of birds. One can choose from walking safari or a conventional game drive through the heart of the forest which is accompanied by a professional guide. The best time to visit the place is during the dry months of Jan, Feb. and March when animals come near to water and could be sighted easily.

Astonishing Beaches of Western Coast

The massive Busua Beach and the Ankobra Beach with their powerful wind systems and high waves are the famous surfing points in Ghana. The resorts are profusely equipped with a wide array of water sports equipment for kayaking, wind surfing, jet skiing etc. They also provide ideal location for beach games like volleyball, soccer, and other activities. The newly constituted Kedas Lodge Watersport Centre and the Miemi Bay is where one can land for a unique water experience. There are many beautiful beaches in Ghana and the most popular being located around Kokrobite town.

Crocodiles of Paga

One can dare to come close and get personal with the crocodiles in Paga region. They are of very friendly disposition and don't mind people sitting on their backs or engaging in fun activities. The crocodiles roam freely all through the ponds, and come to shore occasionally when guard blows the whistle. Visitors can take photographs while sitting on their backs or holding their tails. The crocodiles over here are well nurtured by the caretakers and some of the elderly ones are given special care to protect them from ill effects of ageing.

Wli Waterfall

Located in the Volta Region and consisting of two parts, the lower and upper fall, the Wli Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Ghana which is around 70 metres drop from above. This impressive waterfall terminates into a natural plunge pool at it's base which makes it an ideal place for swimming but the water is bit chilling too. The track on the way to the waterfall provides ample opportunities to witness the wild-life and enjoy the mesmerizing nature, which is indeed a thrilling, experience altogether.
