Experience Pakistan’s Rugged North

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan, a country rich in natural attractions and cultural heritage, but largely untouched by large scale tourism. But those who venture into Pakistan are in for a treat. Islamabad is a gateway to the country's extreme, rugged north, and a unique mountainous landscape, which is home to the second highest mountain in the world, K2. Here you can drive incredible mountain roads, go on mountain hikes of a lifetime and explore some of the country's most accessible, and most beautiful, National Parks. Contact Brightsun Travel about cheap air tickets to Islamabad and find out for yourself why Pakistan is going through a tourism renaissance.

Gilgit-Baltistan

From Islamabad you can explore the Gilgit-Baltistan region, where you could visit the Attabad Lake in the mountainous Hunza Valley. Tourism is slowly gaining momentum to this incredibly unique region of Pakistan, where you can explore the three great mountain ranges of the world – Hindu Kush, Karakoram, and Nanga Parbat.

Karakoram Mountains

If you are feeling adventurous, you could venture into the country's northern wilderness, and explore the Karakoram Mountains, located in the magnificent Gilgit-Baltistan region. The Karakoram Mountains cover the borders of China and India, and most famously include 'K2', the second highest mountain in the world.

Karakoram Highway

Winding through the mountains, the world famous Karakoram Highway, one of the highest paved roads in the world, is a major attraction in Pakistan. The highway is an engineering marvel, and is referred to by some as the Eighth Wonder of the World, with an elevation of over 4500 metres, standing proud against some of the most difficult conditions in the world.

Margalla Hills

You don't have to go far to access natural landscapes from the country's capital city. Margalla Hills National Park, inside the city's boundaries, is rich in biodiversity. Here you could explore the foothills of the Himalayas and spot leopard and hundreds of species of birds. The park has numerous hiking trails plus famous rock climbing spots.

Pothohar Plateau

The Pothohar Plateau, surrounding the capital city, is a place of enormous cultural and historical importance in Pakistan. Here you will find ancient archaeological sites, as well as mountains, rivers, and the Grand Trunk Road, one of Asia's oldest and longest roads, that runs past the Rohtas Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Deosai National Park

Take a short 1 hour flight from Islamabad and you could visit the incredible Deosai National Park, where every year the Deosai Plains come alive with wildflowers, in the spring and summer months. The park also famously provides sanctuary to a range of wildlife, including the Himalayan brown bear and the elusive snow leopard.
