Traveling for less is not a hoax. In fact, there are successful travelers who have seen the world without having to spend as much as one would think is necessary. Be it travelling in a local bus, eating at a not-so-fancy restaurant, hitchhiking, walking or teaching a skill on the go, these awesome people find a way to see the world. At Ichiqoo, we interviewed 3 successful travelers to understand how many places they have visited and how they were able to do it. What sets them apart from the rest of the world is planning, dedication and the urge to travel. Some call it freedom. Others call it, escape. Whatever it may be, we think they are awesome and are happy to share their story.
Johnny Ward, One Step 4ward
An Irish guy left home 10 years ago with no money but with a dream to live a better life. Meet Johnny. He taught English in Asia, traveled a lot and ran out of money. Figured there was more and the cycle continued. He has visited pretty much every country in the world while blogging. His tagline is 'Dream Big. Travel Far. Live Full'. Sounds pretty much like what he does!
Hello, Johnny,
How many places have you traveled to so far?
I have traveled to 194 of the 197 countries in the world. Yet to cover Yemen, Saudi, and Norway and I have seen the world.
What is your average cost per day spend in a foreign land?
It has varied a lot, I was broke when I first started so $10-$15 a day was my budget. Now my blog is successful it can be a lot more!
If there is one tip you can give for saving cost on travel, what would that be?
I'd focus more on making money online, and less on saving money. That's the key to freedom.
Tell us about this picture of yours.
I was Hitchhiking on the top of the longest train the world, through the Sahara, carrying Iron Ore overnight in Mauritania as I slept atop it. AMAZING!
