High Fashion Rubbing Shoulders with Culture and Art in Milan

Are you a fashion freak? Then head for Milan, Italy's most fashionable city. As a fast-paced city bubbling over with glamour and culture Milan is a city that cannot be overlooked if you are planning a holiday to Italy. Milan has two airports – the Malpensa which receives all the international traffic, and the smaller Linate airport which serves flights to Milan from Europe and other Italian cities. Both airports are well connected to Milan city by efficient bus services. In central Milan an extensive Metro system helps the residents and visitors to move around freely. Milan is also well connected to Rome and Venice – a train journey of just 3-4 hours.

As mentioned above, Milan is a paradise for fashion lovers. Top designers of exclusive clothing, footwear and accessories can be found in different areas. There is the Via Dante; Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, Quadrilatero d'Oro. For tourists arriving on flights to they can also enjoy visiting art and historical sights, there are many important and world famous places to visit. La Scala is a world famous opera house which was built in 1778. Milan also has the world's largest Gothic cathedral called the Duomo. This cathedral took 500 years to complete and the adjoining piazza is the hub. Other interesting sights are the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele (a shopping arcade); National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci; Castello Sforzesco, Pinacoteca di Brera and Sant'Ambrogio. St. Ambrose is patron saint and the feast day falls on December 7 a day celebrated with religious activities. Another important festival is the Festa del Naviglio celebrated in June.

Milan has several top class restaurants which serve modern cuisine. If you are into trying out the popular local dishes, the risotto alla Milanese (a saffron and rice dish) and the cotoletta alla milanses (a veal dish) could appeal to your appetite. The Trattoria Toscana di Giovanni is a good restaurant for local dishes; the local bars also serve snacks with pre-dinner drinks. On the shopping front, areas to visit would be La Scala and the Duomo. When the evening hours descend, night life starts to come alive. The nightclubs, cultural events, opera, cinemas and nightclubs all offer interesting and lively programs. So keep your shopping and sightseeing for daylight hours.
