Housing in Dubai – Things to Consider

Dubai is growing to be one of the most popular metropolitan cities in the world. Each year the city not only attracts a lot of leisure travelers but also large number business executives too visit the city for meetings and for work. The world class infrastructure facilities, a modern outlook, thriving work opportunities and more importantly the hospitable nature of the locals pull people from the world to settle down and find permanent residence here. If you are housing in Dubai, you must be aware of the local culture, the lifestyle of the people and you must also be aware of the local rules and regulations.

Important rules you must be aware of while living in Dubai

Public dancing

You must not forget that Dubai is a Muslim country and it strictly follows the Islamic laws. It is therefore important that while you are living in Dubai you must obey and respect the local rules. While, it is pretty normal to dance and make merry on the street after a drinking session in the western countries, in Dubai it is strictly prohibited. Dancing in the public places while being drunk is a serious offence and if you caught indulging in such acts you may face imprisonment.

Dress conservatively

The local Arabs have zero tolerance towards indecent dressing. The Emiratis dress in a conservative manner and they expect that the visitors and the expats living in the country too dress conservatively while in public. The dresses should be of decent length and wearing see-through dresses are considered to be indecent. Even while you are at the beach you must be watchful; you can go for a topless sunbath or indulge in romantic gestures. While living in Dubai you must respect the local culture.

Drugs

The Emirati law has strict restrictions on the use of Drugs. Even the prescription medicines that contain certain banned substances are not allowed in Dubai. It is therefore important that you are careful about the things that you carry during your travel. If you are housing in Dubai you must strictly avoid using the narcotic drugs, if you are caught with any illegal substance, you may face rigorous punishment and you would be deported to your home country.

Other important things to consider while housing in Dubai:

Learn the local language

While you are in Dubai it would be a great benefit if you could learn to speak the local Arabic language. This would not only help you make your way out in the public places and deal with local shop vendors but also it would help you establish a good connection with the local Arabs.

Free zone

If you wish to stay in Dubai for a long time, it would advisable that you look for houses in the free zone residential area. By living in such area you can avoid paying the 5% local housing fees.

Know where to get help

It is important that you familiarize yourself with the local emergency numbers like police, ambulance, hospitals and fire brigade. This would greatly help in making your living in Dubai stress free.
