How Addressing Basic Mobility Problem Will Prevent Traffic Congestion in The US

Traveling places is appealing, but with the traffic congestion in these growing and large metropolitan areas has become inescapable. The desires of people have become widespread that pursuing certain goals results in overloading the everyday transit systems and the existing roads. The pitiful part is that everyone dislikes traffic congestion and despite attempted remedies, it is getting worse.

People in the United States also move during the rush hours taking their private vehicles. The Americans residing in the areas of low density are not served efficiently by public transit and so there is a need for the private vehicles owners to bring out their vehicles to reach their destinations. Another reason is that the private owned vehicles are more private, faster comfortable, flexible and convenient that in one trip many things are covered. Moreover, with the incomes rising, more and more people move from less expensive transport modes to private owned vehicles.

Possible Improvements

Here are few possible improvements to prevent traffic congestion such as:

• Create hot lanes. The hot lanes may add new toll lanes by converting underused existing expressways and leave the existing conventional lanes free of tolls. This paves way for people wishing to move fast to take the hot lane. In this way, it also facilitates the low income drivers to stay off from such roads in the peak hours.
• Responding instantly to traffic-blocking incidents and accidents by removing them from major roads faster using the roving service vehicles that are run by Traffic Management Centers government-run and is equipped with TV and road conditions electronic surveillance to reduce congestion delays.
• Building more roads in the developing areas. Use devices to ensure traffic flow speed. Such devices should include electronic coordination on local streets signal lights, large signs informing traffic conditions ahead to the drivers, one way patterns and current road conditions as radio broadcasts. These technologies must be made effective on local streets so that the traffic is in control.
