How Can Spa Treatment Help You Relieve Stress?

Commute to work, stress at the workplace, deadlines to meet, commute back home, handling domestic chores, feels like a relentless struggle? Daily life can be quite stressful, as you handle a million things and balance out various aspects of your life. There's a simple solution, one that you need to indulge in from time to time. Head to a spa, and we assure you that you'll be back home feeling refreshed and all set to take on the world!

So, how can a spa help me de-stress?

Wondering how a spa can relieve stress? Well, most spas, especially if they have Ayurvedic massage packages, can work wonders. Here are some massages on offer in spas that can help:

  • Massage to relieve all stress

A body massage in the Ayurvedic tradition would mean the use of oils, all of them therapeutic value. A body massage boosts circulation, wipes out your fatigue and leaves your skin well nourished. All in all you will stress-free, as the knots of tension vanish from your body.

  • Panchakarma treatment

One of the most popular spa treatments is Panchakarma, and a lot of westerners also head to India to seek this treatment. The treatment involves balancing the three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) so as to restore the body's balance and keep stress at bay. Many a herbal oil and paste are used in the pancha karma process.

  • Shirodhara

Shirodara is yet another popular Ayurvedic treatment included in spas, as it relieves stress. This relaxing technique involves pouring of warm oil (which has therapeutic qualities) over your forehead. The technique is said to de-stress the body and mind, and boost your sleep quality.

Other methods

However, there are other massages that help boost blood circulation, improve sleep quality and remove all your stress. They include a Swedish/European style of massage which uses movements that release stress, Balinese massage, foot reflexology, aromatherapy massage etc. All these focus on massaging methods that relieve knots of stress in the body. Aromatherapy is the use of healing aromatic oils, while foot reflexology is all about massaging certain points on the feet which are aligned to other parts of your body.

Heat and water

Spas also include hot tubs, and if you soak in one of them, the warm water relaxes your muscles. Blood vessels can dilate and circulation is enhanced and you automatically start feeling relaxed.

Spas also use the technique of directing jets of water on your body, which soothe muscles that feel sore. The moment your muscles relax, you don't feel the stress anymore!

Also, the use of a mud bath or facial helps detoxify your skin. The skin is an important organ, and is often the first point of entry for all kinds of toxins. A facial or mud therapy can release all the tension and stress from your head and neck, and make you feel fresh. Also a mud therapy helps scrub out dead cells, and make our skin better by way of minerals and vitamins.
