How to Get Over The Travel Blues After a Vacation

Long-term travel plays havoc with the normal lifestyle of a traveler; most of them cannot understand how they can fit into our standard society again. For every self-made nomad, there comes a time when they have to choose between a stable life and a wobbly existence in different countries. When they have to return to meet their family or peers and stay there for the next few months, it becomes extremely challenging to fit in. Not just the traveler, but the family also feels awkward with the prolonged presence of the person because the folks adjust their lives according to the extended absence of one of the family members. If you are a traveler, you may know that when you return home after months or years, you may feel sad for no reason. Even if you are with the best of your peers in your hometown, you can still feel the sting in your heart, and you cannot understand why. Let us help you understand the problem and tackle the symptoms of post-holiday blues.

Low, rather than sad, is the correct word for the feeling you may experience. When you are at the place you must call home, you may not feel any energy, you do not get tired, and you cannot fall asleep. If you are involved in professions like photography, writing, or blogging; you may not feel like doing any of these. When you should feel happy about being reunited with your family after a long time, you cannot understand why you feel so sad. Coping up with post-holiday blues may not be easy after you had a fun filled vacation for months at a stretch, but it is an achievable feat.

Don’t expect sympathy

Only a traveler, i.e. you, can understand the meaning of post-holiday melancholy. Do not expect anyone else in your family even to recognize the words, forget to gain sympathy or support from them. Whether you were out for a week-long holiday to the Maldives or for a year-long vacation around the world, the blues that you feel are real. The sadness does hit everyone regardless of its extent. The first thing that you need to do is to understand the gravity of your problem and then decide your course of action.

The positive attitude

Regretting something is not the solution to any problem. You must have had a blast on your vacation to an exotic destination and now cannot help but remember it every moment throughout the day. Nevertheless, the right thing to do is to cherish those memories and be grateful that you got the time and opportunity to experience it. Don’t feel sad when things get over, rather feel thankful that those times happened.

Meeting people

What exactly were you doing on your vacation? Was it partying that made you feel good? Or reading a book sitting on a hill? Or was it just talking to people that gave you satisfaction? Think about it; can’t you do all those things even now in your city? You can still meet new people, do new things, learn new pursuits, laugh around with people, and explore places you haven’t explored before. Just freshen up, wear good clothes, and meet people as you did on your holiday. Make your hometown your new vacation destination.

The memories of your holiday

You cannot run away from the photos and videos of your vacation just because you feel nostalgic looking at them. Take out your photo album or laptop and browse all the great memories you had made. Pick up someone who can relate to your photos, probably your fellow traveler, and gather some laughter from those pictures and videos. You can also create a scrapbook or write a blog about it. When you laugh about the unforgettable time you had spent, it will become easy for you to get over it. Do not make someone else sit with you who may get bored looking at all those pictures.

Talk to your traveler buddies

Even if you took a solo trip, you must have met someone who had a great time with you. Call them up, or text them to know how they are. Ask about a convenient time to talk and recall the moments you had spent together. You can also talk about your separate trips to different places and the feelings of travel withdrawal you are currently undergoing. They are the better audience to understand your state of mind.

Begin planning for the next vacation

You might have exhausted all your savings on your extended world tour, but you can always plan for a short trip to your country. In India, you can never fall short of places to visit around. If you do not possess the ready money to pay for airfare, you can simply look for the best Self Drive Cars in Delhi and leave for the hills in Himachal. A Car for Self Drive in Delhi comes really cheap these days; you can just invite a couple of buddies to go for a road trip with you and make new memories.
