Wanderlust strikes upon us without prior warning. There are vacations which are planned months in advance, although sudden plans for vacation lead to even more fun. Some days you just wake up, dress up for work and then you feel you have to go out of the city. Mostly you just ignore the city, but sometimes the feelings are too strong to ignore. As much fun last minute vacations are, they do require a little bit planning and that too in just a minute.
According to Andy Hayes, it's always a good idea to stick to the following pattern to have a fun last minute vacation.
Plan your budget
Budget planning is the most boring part of a vacation, but the most vital one too, because you are going to a different city. Once you've decided where you want to travel to, just research a bit about the rent for hotel rooms, travelling costs etc and plan a budget. You can keep a budget planning app handy to keep a check on your expenses on the go. Andy Hayes of Oregon keeps a separate account for his travel funds.
Choose the correct flight
Wanderlust can impact you on any day yes, but if you're lucky it can strike on a weekday. The reason behind it is that a lot of airlines offer cheap flight tickets on weekdays. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the least preferred days to travel which means the flight tickets are cheap enough to fit your budget.
Things to do
Plenty of times you follow sites like Wikitravel or Tripadvisor to decide the things to do while you travel to a new city. Those sites are good and reliable because they have accounts of fellow travel enthusiasts but Andy Hayes of Oregon State Treasury suggests the guidance of locals should be trusted more. If you are in a city with good network connection, make sure you keep your GPS on, because not all those who wander are lost, but you never know.
Ask your friends
If you are travelling on the last minute and that too on a weekday, chances are that you will be travelling solo. But if you have friends with common interests, itchy feet being one of them, you can always call around and find a travel partner. With the right planning, last minute vacations are more fun than pre-planned trips.
