How to Save Big on a Hotel for an Upcoming Trip

Traveling on a budget? There are many ways to save on that big vacation including securing the best hotel deals possible. It is surprising how much can be saved by following just a few simple tips, and for those who are aware of them, it's a blessing; because they find they can even take more vacations than just one or two per year just on the amount they saved finding great hotel deals.

Check out some of these tips and then get to booking! It will be a much more pleasurable experience to not sit in a hotel regretting all the hundreds of dollars spent for a simple room.

Search an Area

When online and searching for a hotel, don't pick one specific spot. Try looking around the area for something that is maybe a few minutes away. The price can fall exponentially! Many are surprised to find that a hotel just a bit farther can be hundreds cheaper, yet they are still able to access what they came for via bicycle rental, public transport or even walking! Even moving from that location right on the beach to across the street will let one see what hotel deals can be found; it's astounding!

Be Flexible on Dates

There's a tiny little box on most websites that says, “Flexible on dates?” Many overlook this little gem that can save them a ton. When clicked, it will give the user a listing of hotels for much less out-of-pocket and the dates they are available for that rate. So, anyone who can play around with travel dates owes it to themselves to click the box.

Stick to a Budget

Aside from finding hotel deals, a great way to make the vacation more affordable is to plan a budget. It can be super easy to spend money when on vacation. First, decide how much will be spent on vacation and include any conveniences and comforts that are desired from the hotel that's chosen. If not spending much time in the hotel and more time out sightseeing, then keep that in mind because money saved on a room can be spent on entertainment instead.

Cut the Trip Short

Shaving off a day or two of the vacation is another great way to save money. By taking advantage of hotel deals and staying for 7 days rather than 10 it can make up for the cost of the hotel one really desires but still provide a magical stay. It's up to the travel party to decide if that's a worthwhile trade.

Travel in the Off Season

Whatever the off-season is for the location being traveled to should be noted, and if one can travel then, they'll get great hotel deals. Hotels are trying hard to fill up their rooms during this time and offer them for a huge percentage off! Plus, there will be less crowds which is always a blessing. Another point to consider is staying during the week instead of weekends. Weekend prices on hotel rooms are always higher.

Try Something New

In addition to hotels, most popular destinations also have other options one can explore:

  • Hostels have upgraded themselves over the years and now offer extras that rival hotels don't. there are plenty of details and reviews online.
  • A furnished vacation home or apartment is another option and perfect for travel parties that are staying a longer time, as they come with all the comforts of home. Cooking meals saves a lot of money in the long run.
  • Boutique hotels are sometimes a bit cheaper than large chain hotels. Explore and see what can be found in these unique, smaller accommodations.
