Landscapes And Lighthouses Enjoy Benidorm’s Great Outdoors

Trekking in Sierra Helada

The Sierra Helada is a protected natural park that contains one of the most beautiful coastlines in the Valencia region and has much to offer any lover of the great outdoors. It has three trekking routes: the Red, Blue, and Yellow Routes. The Red Route will take you along a paved path that goes through tunnels that culminate at the Albir lighthouse and a marvellous view. You may even see some dolphin pods frolicking off the coast!

The Blue Route is the easiest of the three, and has its share of sights as well. You'll experience some of the best views from the vantage point of this path; there's even the ruins of a watchtower near the end! In medieval times, the watchtower once housed guards who were tasked with watching over the Spanish coast to alert the public of the presence of pirates.

Of the three routes, the Yellow Route is the most strenuous. But it is also perhaps my favourite! At the end of this path, you'll reach the highest point of the park, from which you can see unparalleled views of the surrounding cliffs, coast and of Benidorm itself. For an energy-filled day excursion, I recommend traversing all three routes. Just be sure to bring enough water!

Cycling to Altea

With its twists, turns and gentle hills, the Costa Blanca region of Spain is a paradise for any cyclist. Altea, just 10km north of Benidorm, is an excellent choice for a family-friendly outdoor excursion. Cycling along the beach makes for a beautiful full-day activity and if you're feeling up for a challenge, continue on to Guadalest – famous for its white bell tower and one of the most beautiful mountain regions in the area. The incline makes for a gruelling climb, but you'll be riding through some of the most beautiful countryside. You can even take an alternative route back down the mountain to visit the iconic Algar waterfall. The waterfall's cold, clean water is always a welcome way to cool down after a long ride!

How to Get There

You 'll most likely fly into Alicante Airport from any of the UK departure points. The most hassle-free way to travel from Alicante Airport to Benidorm is with a shuttle service, especially if you intend to bring sports equipment! That should only take 40 minutes or so, and you'll be enjoying your holiday and taking in the great outdoors in no time.
