Last Minute tips for your Summer Camp

Summer Camp is just another name for school picnics where you not only enjoy with your friends but also learn some valuable things in your life. Sending your child to a summer camp is a great move to ensure that he will enjoy and learn some good things during this summer vacation. Once you have picked the best holiday places near pune for summer camp, it's now necessary to confirm that your child is fully prepared for this summer camp or not. It doesn't matter if this will be the first time of your child to go to a summer camp, or he has been doing these camps for a couple of years already; preparation is important if you want your child to have a pleasant camp experience. Here are some last minute suggestions to complete your preparations.
1. If Possible, Visit the Camp place few Days before the camp
It would be perfect if you visit the overnight camp with your child few days before it starts, so he will have an idea of the place. However, if you are unable to visit the place, then do some research and check the website of the camp, or read reviews. This way, you and your child will know how the camp, the rooms, and the facilities would be like.
2. Ask Your Child's classmates to go to Summer Camp
If it's the first time of your child, it's advisable to go to the camp with his/her close friends or relatives. Also, if it is an overnight camp, the friend should be of same age, so that they can share a room together.
3. Start Packing a Few Weeks in Advance
To avoid last minute shopping plans or skipping something that your child might require in summer camp, you should pack your bag a few weeks in advance, and create a to-do list is highly recommended. Also, when preparing for summer camp, make sure to pack the following:
  • Check the rules and regulations of the summer camp once.
  • Stick a label of the child's name on all of his stuff, including his clothes.
  • Help your child in packing his things.
  • Don't omit to put some plastic bags and old newspapers in his bag.
  • Put some pre-addressed envelopes or postcards in his bag.
4. No Need to shop a Lot of New Clothing
Although buying one or two new pieces is absolutely fine, you should consider how harsh camp can be, and it may be a loss to spend more money on buying new clothing that will get dirty in camping.
5. Have a Discussion with Your Child
Before going to the camp, spend some quality time with your child and have a discussion about what he can expect at camp. First let him share his worries and interests, and then encourage your child that his feelings are quite normal.
6. Don't Let the Fear of the Unknown Take over Your Child
Normally, a lot of children feel worried if it's the first time they are going to a summer camp. To prevent this situation, try to encourage your child and show him some good (not scary) photographs of the camping. This would give your child some confidence. Don't forget to instruct your children how to do the laundry and some other important things that would help him to survive in camp.

7. Surprise your child with Letter
In the initial few days of summer camp, amaze your child with a motivational letter. Make sure to mention how exciting the camp can be and you're really proud of him.
8. Check the Camp's Calling Regulations
If it is written in the rules and regulation of camp that no phone calls are allowed, respect this, and make sure your child is informed of this policy. However, if you're really thinking to make some phone calls during the camp, then you should ask the camp director before hand and give them an idea of when you're going to call your child.
9. No Cell phones Allowed
Most of the summer camps don't allow their campers to bring mobile phones with them. This can be an excellent way to teach a child on how to be independent, and as a parent, you should follow this policy.
As far as the other electronic devices are concerned, a lot of camps do allow their campers to use their electronic devices while in bed or during free time. However, you should be aware of the hazards that go with carrying valuable things with your child. Camps might say, we recommend that allow your child to bring an older model of the gadget so that if it gets broken or lost, it wouldn't cause a lot of trouble.
10. Care Packages Are a Necessity
Care packages can be the highlight of your child's day in a camp. It should follow the policies and guidelines of summer camp. You can think of sending some snacks if the camp allows it, cards, games and other stuff, such as an address book, journal, pillow cover and disposable camera where his camp mates can sign.
11. Be Genuine
Don't pressurise your child while he's at camp. Always tell him that the main target of summer camp is to have fun, learn new skills, make friends, and relax.
