List of Things to do in Mauritius

A holiday in Mauritius – the idea itself is enough to send you into raptures! If it is all sand and surf you are thinking about, think again. Mauritius offers you a whole range of other activities as well to choose from.

  • A great way to explore the Indian Ocean is to go on a cruise to all the tiny islands. If you want to explore one of the islands, you could probably take a boat from Trou d'eau Douce to Ile aux Cerfs, a popular island setting for golf, water sports and beaches. You could opt for a catamaran and head to the islands, Gunner's Quoin, Gabriel Island and Flat Island.
  • You can take up diving as well by opting for a package with a diving centre operator. You could opt for Trou aux Biches, Flic-en-Flac or the islands on the North.
  • Opt for adventure sports like submarine rides, a walk underwater or parasailing at Grand Baie.
  • You could also visit La Cuvette, a picturesque beach with clear waters, for activities like windsurfing or sailing.
  • If you love trekking or hiking, you can visit the Black River Gorges National Park, which covers more than 6,574 hectares. You can go on trails and enjoy the wildlife or thick forests. The region has hundreds of flower-bearing plants, and what's more, a rare species of pigeon that is an endemic Mauritius species.
  • Yet another botanical garden you could visit is the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens, where you can explore rare flora such as sausage trees.
  • Kite-surfing is an interesting activity that you can take up in Mauritius. The place is among the best such spots across the world. Paddle-boarding and snorkelling are other activities you could indulge in.

Hit the beaches

The beaches in Mauritius you could explore are:

  • Belle Mare Plage, which is a ten-km white sandy beach.
  • Ile aux Cerfs, known for a range of water sports.
  • Trou aux Biches, which is especially popular with those interested in snorkelling.
  • Grand Baie, which is known for watersports, shopping or great food.
  • Blue Bay, which is a protected park. Those who want to opt for boating excursions should definitely try the glass bottom boating trips and snorkelling at Blue Bay.

Dolphin watching

One of the most interesting activities if you were to visit Mauritius is to go catch the sight of dolphins at Tamarin Bay. There are two dolphin species at Mauritius: bottle-nose and spinner. There are certain excursions that even allow to go swimming with these exquisite creatures.

Best time to visit

Mauritius is known for its blue waters, and it is a calming influence to just sit by and watch the blue waters. The best time to visit the island is between November and April, the summer months.
