Masai Mara Safari & Top Activities to Enjoy Besides The Famous Wildebeest Migration

If you've never visited Africa & experienced its awesome natural beauties, a Mombasa to Masai Mara Safari is the place to start. Here the regal Masai warriors share their ancient lands with crocodiles, lions, hippopotamus and the largest herds of wildebeest & gazelle in the world.

Most of the travelers to Masai Mara National Reserve limit their activities to the typical game drives. Generally, 3 game drives are offered everyday; at the first light of daybreak, then you come back to the camp or lodge to take your breakfast. Then you may go for another drive to see the hippo pools & return for lunch. In the afternoon, you may take another drive searching for the prides of lions or chase the wildebeest herds.

Granted, this standard schedule can be rewarding, particularly to the safari enthusiasts that are new to Africa. But there're many add-ons that can make your trip to Mara even more impressive. Listed below are just a few of the examples:

Opt for a walking safari with a Masai guide:

Leave your safari van behind & in the company of armed guards & experienced local guides go for a walking safari. Track wild animals on foot, not sure of what animals to see on the next turn – giraffe, buffalo or even lion. While walking, enjoy the real excitement of the African bush & learn regarding many small details of the bush life & the customary uses of the diverse plants to the Masai folks.

Enjoy classic bus breakfast:

Early in the morning, with the rising sun, take the typical early morning game drive, adorned in the morning haze. When the sun rises over the horizon, you will discover yourself at a picturesque destination where a plush breakfast will have been served by a team of chefs from the camp or lodge.

Explore a Masai tribal village:

Masai is home to the captivating ethnic group of the Masai folk. While on a Mombasa to Masai Mara safari, you've the chance to get first-hand experience regarding these ancient cultures. Go to a far-flung village in the African bush & gain some knowledge about the Masai tribal social system, customs and traditions. You may want to visit a local school & interact with kids who used to walk almost 10 kilometers to reach their school.

Don't miss a hot air balloon safari over the Mara:

Enjoy a unique aerial view of the Mara from a hot air balloon. As the sun rises over the horizon, the fascinating drama of wildlife on the Mara plains opens out underneath you, with elephants and giraffe inquisitive glimpses your way & the birds flying past. As soon as your balloon safari ends, don't miss the chance to celebrate your adventure with a cool drink on the ground.

Conclusion:

Trying to take part in most of the activities mayn't be feasible, unless you've a whole week of stay in the Mara. But picking a few to add to your itinerary will work great to your overall experience.
