October Events in Waikiki

Have lots of free time on your hands this October? Clueless about what to do? Why not take a vacation to the beautiful Island of Oahu? No need to worry about the worry as there are really only 2 seasons in Hawaii: summer (called Kau in Hawaiian) from May to October and winter (Ho'oilo) from November to April. The average daytime summer temperature at sea level is 85° F. (29.4 C) while the average daytime winter temperature is 78° (25.6° C). Temperatures at night are approximately 10° F. lower. October is a wonderful time to spend Hawaii family vacations as the temperature is still in the 80's and sunny. Picture yourself relaxing on the world-famous Waikiki Beach. While you take the time to decide, here are a few events happening in Waikiki that might be appealing to you.

A DAY AT QUEEN EMMA SUMMER PALACE October 1, 2016. Join Daughters of Hawaii for the 40th Annual A Day at Queen Emma Summer Palace on Saturday, October 1 from 9am – 3pm. Live Hawaiian entertainment featuring the Royal Hawaiian Band, Punahou Alumni Glee Club, Kualoa, Kumu Hula Kahai Topolinski, and more. Shop at the Marketplace for Island-style clothing, Shells, Lei Haku, Jams and Jellies, Tutu's Attic, and ono local food. Visit Queen Emma Summer Palace and see the exhibition, Na Hulu Makamae o Hawaii.

11th Annual Duke's Ukes Contest- October 1. Contestants of all ages will compete in two divisions: 'ukulele instrumental and 'ukulele and vocals. Each division will feature two age categories. Winners in each 'ukulele division will be presented with a new Kamaka 'Ukulele.

Native American Intertribal Powwow- October 1 & 2. Enjoy singing, dancing, drumming, Native American arts & craft vendors, native fry bread, educational and children's craft booth at Magic Island. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

24th Annual Hawaii's Woodshow – October 1-17. Woodshow was created to promote an appreciation for the remarkable variety of Hawaii-grown woods and attract talented woodworkers throughout the state and abroad who submit entries showcasing the versatility and beauty of Hawaii woods across design mediums including furniture, woodturning, sculpture and musical instruments. At the Honolulu Museum of Art Gallery School.

Fall Wiki Wiki One Day Vintage Collectibles & Hawaiian Show – October 2. It is an all vintage (20 yrs & older) collectibles & antiques show and sale. Ninety three tables with over 70 vendors from Oahu, Outer Islands, & Mainland U.S. Hawaii's only strictly vintage show.

10K World Peace & Unity Run/Walk 2016 takes place on October 8, 6am start at starting at Ala Moana Beach (Magic Island).

24-Hour Play Festival is on October 8, starting at 9pm playwrights, actors and directors start from scratch to produce a suite of new plays in only 24 hours. Debut and finale of these plays will be Saturday evening at 9pm.

28th Annual Talk Story Festival will be held on October 15 at McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Regional Park. The vision is to honor traditional and contemporary storytelling and oral history by creating the very best environment to present Hawaii's very best tellers. Free and open to the public.

5th Annual Slack Key Guitar Festival Westside Style is on October 23, festivities will include food, great music, freebies throughout the day and a brand new Taylor Guitar to be given away to some lucky winner at the end of the day. Free event.

Hawaii Food & Wine Festival – October 26-30 various culinary events happening around O'ahu. From lu'aus to cook-offs to Ramen battles.

Halloween on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki- On October 31, every year restaurants and bars provide drinks specials and everyone is decked out in their best costumes. Come and take photo and join in the fun.
