Pushkar, Home To Auspicious Pushkar Lake And Temple Of Jagat Pita Shri Brahma

Pushkar, largely popular as the king of pilgrimage sites in India, is one of the most significant places in the country. It falls within the province of Ajmer in the state of Rajasthan. Although the exact date or era of the origin of the place is not known, it is thought to be one of the oldest cities in India. Best known for its high religious reverence and the popular, colorful Pushkar Mela, the place is flocked by pilgrims and tourists in large counts, continuously throughout the year.

Pushkar Tourism

Since the place is one of the major centres of religion, there are several legends and beliefs circling the city. In fact, the very origin of the place is largely associated with a popular religious belief. According to it, the place came into existence when Hindu Lord Brahma in an attempt to free the people from the demon Vajranash released a swan with a lotus (intoned with magical spells) in its beak. It was decided that the place where the lotus falls would be the site of Maha Yagna. Evidently the lotus fell on the site of Pushkar, where the Lord then performed the yagna and killed the demon. Thus derived the name of the city. Today, the place houses a highly revered Brahma temple. Note that Brahma temples are very rare and there are only a handful of places in the world where exist Brahma temples, thus making Pushkar a significant one.
According to another most popular religious belief, the Pushkar lake which is considered to be auspicious is formed from the tears of Lord Shiva. After the death of Mata Sati, tears fell out of Lord Shiva's eyes in agony. These tears then converted into two holy lakes. They being the Pushkar Lake (Pushkar, India) and the pond at the Katas Raj temple in Pakistan. The Pushkar lake is one of the most auspicious holy lakes in the country. There are about 52 ghats in the lake and taking a dip in the lake is believed to wash off one's lifetime of sins.
Since the city is visited by huge waves of tourists and pilgrims yearlong, there is a need for sufficient lodging for visitors. The good thing is that there is no shortage of hotels in Pushkar. There are hotels in all budget range and luxury brackets. Simply consider picking the hotel that best suits your staying needs as well as budget.

Accessing Pushkar is an easy affair for the fact that there exists excellent air, road, and rail connectivity. The city is well-connected to Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Delhi, Agra, and other major cities in central and western India by roadways. Besides, the city is well served by trains connecting it to the rest of India. The nearest airport to the city is at Jaipur. It is called the Sanganer Airport and is a modern airport, counted amongst the best airports in the state.
Amongst the most popular places to visit in Pushkar, some are: Pushkar Lake, Savitri Temple, Old Pushkar, Brahma Temple, Savitri Temple, Gautama Maharishi temple, Baba the Cosmic Barber, Man Mahal, 108 Mahadev Mandir, Temple of Rangji, Paap Mochani Gayatri, Apteshwar Mahadev temple, and Varaha temple. Plus, the Pushkar Fair is one of the prime attractions of the city. It is a five-day long festival of joy, color, and festivity. If possible, try to plan Pushkar tour during the season of Pushkar Fair.
