Mahabaleshwar is a small hill station in the state of Maharashtra. It is a popular weekend getaway for the locals of Mumbai and Pune, and a prominent destination in the nation, for nature lovers and those looking for an escapade from the hustle-bustle of cities. It is one of the handful of remaining evergreen forests in the nation and also owns a huge religious significance.
Ideally set on a plateau, it is a quaint hill station oozing old-world charm and unmatched natural beauty. The hill station was founded by the British governor Sir John 'Boy' Malcolm in year 1828, and later became the summer capital of Bombay (the former name of Mumbai) presidency. Tourism wise, the place is one hundred percent tourist town. It is quite natural to see all the tourist places and lookout points in the town flocked by tourists in most of the seasons in a year. This is one downside of tourism in the hill town. The other downside is that today the town has transformed into a jungle of constructions and buildings because of modernization.
The good thing is that the hill-town is still a beautiful hill station dotting the map of the nation. Everlasting hills that are densely capped by the virgin forests, sparkling water bodies, clean air, pleasant sun, ludicrous green fields, rich and wide species of flora & fauna, and a net of walking trails taking one to the most enchanting spots in the town, what is there not to relish in the hill town. The hill town is as beautiful-tranquil as one has heard. It is simply an ideal destination to kick-back and relax, gusto good food, relish the genuine hospitality of the town in the best Mahabaleshwar hotels, go horse riding, trekking, boating, sightseeing, and hitchhiking. Many see the town as a tranquil place to spend sometime rejuvenating while being surrounded by the nature's wealth.
An interesting fact about the town's lookout points is that many of them are named after the British administrators who founded them. There are in total about 25 lookout points, each giving the magnificent views of sunrise, sunset, and the region consisting of mountains and valley. A couple of places that are must visit include: Lingmala Falls, Lodwick Point, Kate's Point, Wilson Point, Babington Point, Arthur's Seat, Elephant's head Point, and Bombay Point. Note that the town virtually shuts during the months of June to September because of the heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, the months between March and May are the peak seasons for tourism in the town.
Accommodations in Mahabaleshwar is one prominent virtue of the town, as there exists a huge range of hotels in the town. One can choose from the best uber luxurious 5 Star hotels in Mahabaleshwarthat are perhaps the best hotel types in the town for memorable holiday, or the cheap/budget hotels that are ideal for a brief trip or those with money concerns.
