Anyone who has been to Greece will rave about Pompeii. What if you were to hear that Rome is better than Pompeii? It's an ancient town of Ostia Antica which was abandoned by the Romans and was once buried in silt, is now a place of interest. You will get to see beautiful frescoes decorating the walls, columns which reach to the sky, stunning mosaics – even marble-seated communal public toilets.

Rome is a city of the past and the present – it can be termed as the world's biggest open air museum. As one of the world's most photogenic cities, Rome's most well known landmarks are The Vatican, St. Peter's Square, the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain. Rome has about 19 basilicas, St. Peter's Basilica being the largest basilica in Christianity.

Among the many spectacular sights in Rome is The Colosseum, which stands out. It is a large structure built in ancient times and took about 10 years to construct. Another very impressive building is the Pantheon, a temple which was originally dedicated to 'all gods'. Rome's fountains have also enjoyed worldwide fame. The Trevi Fountain is one of Rome's major attractions. The Fountain of Four Rivers, a masterpiece designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini can be found in the Piazza Navona.
