Self Catering in Bournemouth: Flexible Family Fun!

A self-catering holiday is the perfect solution for families looking for flexible fun at an affordable price. With its seven-mile stretch of golden sands looking out onto sparkling Poole Bay and the Isle of Wight, Bournemouth offers everything from a relaxing day at the beach to a central location from which to explore historical sites, plan walks along the glorious Jurassic Coast, or take off for a day's surfing. Dining options range from Britain's best fish and chip shop to little-known gourmet restaurants. Plan a holiday in Bournemouth and no two days need be the same!

Bournemouth is renowned for its water sports, and attracts surfers eager to try out Europe's first artificial surf reef. Beginners can take lessons at one of Bournemouth's surf schools before venturing out onto the water, and the safe shallows of Poole Harbour are an ideal place to master kite surfing and windsurfing. For the very energetic, water sports such as wakeboarding, kayaking, jet skiing and coast walking will provide some thrilling memories to take back home.

For family members who prefer to stay dry, fishing trips, cruises and power boating experiences can be arranged at all levels, from basic to luxury. Self catering families can pack their own picnic and head to Brownsea Island to observe and photograph the birds, or sign up for a BBQ cruise complete with fireworks – the possibilities are endless.

The coast around Bournemouth is interesting in all weathers, and a truly amazing place to explore. Unique sites such as Hurst Castle (Henry VIII's impressive artillery fortress), Bournemouth's famous pier, and glorious coastal walks along sandy beaches or breezy cliffs offer plenty of variety.

A trip inland brings you Bournemouth's famous gardens, numerous National Trust and English Heritage sites, including prehistoric outdoor sites with stunning views, and children's favourites such as Wimborne Minster Model Town. Shopping and dining are always available, in Bournemouth town centre or in the surrounding villages. Driving around the lush Dorset countryside is an adventure in itself, as winding lanes offer constant glimpses of green vistas and picturesque buildings. Pubs, tearooms and restaurants abound, so a relaxing break can easily be had; for the budget-minded, self catering has the advantage that food can be brought from home or purchased in the local supermarkets.

With a wide range of properties available to suit every family, self catering is the solution to making a holiday fit your budget.
