A few interesting things about Segovia

Segovia is one of the many Spanish medieval towns, surely standing among those which are very popular and beautiful as well as attractive. If you have never seen Segovia, imagine an austere but noble city having its gates opened for anyone who wants to spend a relaxing and educational holiday. The World Heritage Site designated by the UNESCO has a very interesting history, being populated in the beginning by the Celtiberians. However, the Romans are the ones who transformed Segovia into the jewel that it is today. The Moors and the Visigoths did not leave their fingerprints on the city which is very unusual and interesting, but this did not prevent the city from living a very prosperous life, especially in the 14th century.

The most important monuments in Segovia

Since Segovia is almost completely the result of the hard work deposed by the Romans, it is understandable why sightseeing should start with the Roman Aqueduct. The inhabitants of the city consider the Roman Aqueduct to be their emblematic monument and they are right: specialists say that this Aqueduct is the most exquisite example of the great civil engineering realized by the Romans in Spain. The Alcazar dates back to the 12th century and its appearance inspired the creation of Sleeping Beauty's Castle for Disneyland. The Cathedral is not as old as the other important monuments, but it is an architectural pearl that you have to see. It was actually built in order to take the place of an older Romanesque Cathedral which had burnt down; the Gothic monument wears a very light color but it is very imposing. The Segovia Mint deserves your attention because it is the industrial building that still manages to stand; this does not seem very impressive, but if you take into consideration that it is also the oldest one, your perspective might change.

Having fun in Segovia

When it comes to food, Segovia occupies a wonderful place standing somewhere close to the top. The suckling lamb and the suckling pig are two of the dishes that most attract the interest of tourists; they are absolutely delicious. Segovia also has a few desserts, among which it is very important to remember the ponche segoviano. Since you are there, taste the red wines and I assure you that you will feel like you are in heaven. Have a nice holiday!
