Take a Walking Tour of the Beautiful City of Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium. It has the distinction of being one of the best tourist attractions worldwide, and also one of the most famous historical cities in Europe. Brussels is indeed a treasure house of monuments, museums and other historical places. Since the city is not large, moving around and exploring the art and history in Brussels is relatively easy. One can literally move around on foot. Brussels' history goes back to the 10th century when it was a fortress town. Present day has a population of around one million and the city has now developed into a modern metropolis. With so much history to see and absorb, you would need to select the important landmarks of Brussels. The Grand Place: This is a Square surrounded by buildings of intricate architecture. A 96 meter statue of Saint Michael slaying a demon dominates the scene. Parc du Cinquantenaire is a large urban public park. The park has a complex built by King Leopold II made of glass, iron and stone. Other important edifices in Cinquantenaire Park are the Islamic and Cultural Centre of Belgium; Auto World; Military Museum; the Royal Museums of Fine Arts. Some of the other interesting sites to visit in Brussels are the Quartier Royal, once home to the Belgian royal family; the Musee des Instruments de Musique which has a display of around 7000 musical instruments from all over the world. The famous Mannekin Pis is located in the center. A Roman Catholic Church called the Cathedral Saints Michel et Gudule is located in the center of Brussels and has a history spanning 12 centuries. Brussels is known for its chocolates and beer, Belgian chocolates holding the top spot in the world. Strolling through the roads housing the chocolate shops or taking part in a chocolate making workshop can prove a delightful experience. Bars, bistros, and restaurants – Brussels abounds with such spots where you can let your hair down, wine, dine and dance and enjoy the experience that a booking on flights can make possible for you.
