The Best Sunset Locations Near Your Kununurra Accommodation

Reds and oranges, pinks and purples, or perhaps the most vibrant shade of magenta you've ever seen… while the colours themselves hold potential to leave you breathless, one of the most enticing qualities is that a Kimberley sunset is never the same. There is so much to love about watching the sun go down at the end of a day exploring the wilderness…

Kelly's Knob

This 360-degree panoramicsunset location takes in some of the most glorious agricultural, township, and natural sights you ever did see. This rugged hill stands more than 200m tall and is located within walking distanceof the Kununurra town centre. If you're into hiking, the best, panoramic views can be seen from the very top of the knob. This requires a 10-20 minute walk (depending on your fitness levels) from the car park located half way up the hill.

From here you'll see the Ord Irrigation Scheme to the north, Mirima National Park to the East, the town centre to the South and the airport and additional farmland to the West. If you just want to relax (but still take in great views!) it's only a short walk up a rock path from the car parkto a range of rocky viewing areas looking North and West. You'll find both travellers and locals sprawled on the rocks at this halfway area at sunset – often with drinks and nibbles.

Lake Argyle

Watch the evening sun dip behind the rugged red ranges from the comfort of the Kimberley's only infinity pool or a sunset cruise at Lake Argyle. It's just scenic 40-minute drive to reach this tourism destination from your accommodation Kununurra and it is well worth the visit. At the end of each day the rolling, burnt orange cliffs surrounding the lake glow with the setting sun.

Wyndham's Five Rivers Lookout

Just a few minutes' drive from the historic port town of Wyndham is one of the most incredible vistas the Kimberley has to offer. Wyndham's Five River Lookout, also known as Wyndham Bastion, is 330m tall and takes in sweeping views of the port. From the top you can also see the town'scattle yards, the mud flats of the Cambridge Gulf, Wyndham's town centre and the five iconic rivers thatmeet at the Gulf. The rivers are Durack, Pentecost and King to the south and Forrest and Ord to the north. The top of the bastion is a short yet winding drive and the rest stop at its pinnacle is well-equipped with toilets, tables and barbecues. The coastline off Wyndham is scattered with tales of shipwrecks, crocodiles, and fishing misadventures. It illuminates perfectly at sunset.

Mirima National Park

The beautiful bush setting features dozens of glowing, rock formations, which rise out of the ground and create many tracks for the explorative traveller to follow. Also known as the'mini Bungle Bungle range', Mirima National Park is located just adjacent to Kununurra's town centre and a few kilometres from your accommodation Kununurra WA. Department of Parks and Wildlife WA has installed stairs and raised boardwalks to make this are more accessible to travellers. It's a beautiful spot to watch the sunset and gain a unique view of the adjacent Kelly's Knob and Kununurra.
