The Delights of Backpacking in India

The word backpacking brings to mind cascading images of adventurous big bag-toting travelers. Backpacking is one of the most popular forms of travelling the world over. It is synonymous with freedom, adventure, thrill and of course affordability. It is all about smart budgeting and planning. It is also about extracting the best out of limited means and resources and yet getting the best out of a journey. Hardly anyone would counter the view that backpackers generally have the greatest fun while smartly saving big. That is especially true of those who come backpacking in India. Instead of staying in luxurious hotel rooms, backpackers would rather happily stay in vibrant places like some youth hostel. It is often noted that those who go backpacking often end up winding down in a youth hostel. It lets them save money and also connect with like-minded people there.

In India backpacking naturally is a colossal experience in itself; a vast country with a myriad cultures, histories, landscapes, sceneries and incongruities offers too much to be summed up in words. And if you want an authentic feel of India to slather your body, spirit and mind, backpacking is the way to go.Whether you backpack in a city or a village in India, you are sure to gather a plethora of experiences, colors, flavors and memories that will last a lifetime as priceless souvenirs in your mind.

As a country India can be broadly appreciated as one single land spread across four different zones like the North, East, West and South with each offering heavenly images, vibes and edification. Backpackers who venture into the North in India learn what backpacking really is when they climb the mighty Himalayas, camp in Jammu & Kashmir, trek in Laddakh and Himachal Pradesh, visit the opulent Rajasthan, behold the velvety green landscapes in Punjab and Haryana or visit big cities like New Delhi, the capital city of India, Agra of the Taj Mahal fame and other places.

In the East (and North East) lie breathtakingly beautiful and captivating places like places like West Bengal, Bihar, Odhisa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim that are truly ideal for backpackers.

In the south, backpacking in India takes you to Kerala- God's own country, Karnataka and other enchanting states and also spots like Lakshadweep Islands . In the West, Goa, Maharashtra (housing Mumbai, the glam and financial capital of India), Gujarat and several other places (inclusive of Madhya Pradesh) attract avid backpackers too.

You can go backpacking all these places and other regions in their proximity. It's common to find most of these places teeming with hundreds of thousands of backpackers throughout. What makes backpacking in India special is the warmth and friendly attitudes that people in India welcome travelers with.

If you are already smitten by reading this, come backpacking in any part of India. Transform yourself into a backpacker, locate a good place like a youth hostel and set yourself free for the time of your life!
