Garia is one of the oldest and posh neighborhoods in South Kolkata. An amalgamation of old and modern times, it spreads over several localities like New Garia, Chak Garia, Baghajatin, Kanungo Park, Baishnabghata-Patuli, Garia Park, Kamalgazi, Tentulberia, etc. After the partition of 1947, this place became the center of new residents due to the rich farmlands along the Adi Ganga canal(Tolly nulla) that connected Kolkata to the Vidyadhari river in the east. Today, in the age of new infrastructural developments this region still carries the very cultural values that define Bangla.
Garia has witnessed the birth and bringing up of several notable personalities like Asapurna Devi, Kabir Suman, Anurag Basu, Kaushik Ganguly, Churni Ganguly, etc. This is the location of several famous Durga Puja Pandals like Durga puja of Jatra Shuru Sangha, Kanungo Park, Srirampur Kalyan Samity, Milan Park, Sangathani Sangha, Moitri Sangha, Kalyan Parisad, etc. The Buddha Purnima is celebrated in the Garia Buddha Temple.
Four metro stations connect Garia with the Kolkata metro railways. They are Kavi Subhash (formerly New Garia), Shahid Khudiram, Kavi Nazrul (formerly Garia Bazar) and Gitanjali metro station(formerly Naktala). It is connected to the North and Eastern part of Kolkata through the EM Bypass. Other important roads are Raja S C Mullick Road, Garia main road, N S C Bose Road and Garia station road. There are four major Bus Terminals here. You can also find taxis, auto rickshaws and hand drawn rickshaws easily.
Garia houses some of the prominent educational institutions of Kolkata. This includes Indian Center for Space Research, Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Techno India Group School, Miranda high School and K.K. Das College among others. It also contains some of the notable hospitals like The Apollo Clinic, Peerless hospital, Lifeline Hospital, Mother Teresa Memorial TB Hospital and Research Center. Metropolis Mall, Orbit Mall, Spencer’s, Sonar Bangla Shopping Center and Proyozonio are some of the favorite shopping destinations of local residents.
No doubt that many families want to live in this neighborhood and become a part of the culture that Garia breeds. Several new apartment complexes and standalone apartments are coming up while resale flats are also available for sale.
Rajwada Royal Garden is a promising project that is coming up in Narendrapur, Garia. It consists of 6 high rise towers located in lush greenery with a jogging track. This project has world class amenities and offers 2, 3 and 4 BHK flats. Exotica Heights is yet another prime residential project consisting of 2/3 BHK embellishments in a single 7 storey tower. The facilities of car parking, power backup and 24×7 security are available in Exotica Heights.
