The Golden Citadel and Quiet Beauty Of Thar Desert – Explore Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is a popular tourist place of northern India. Declared a World Heritage Site, Jaisalmer is a historic city of Rajasthan and it lies right in the center of the famous Thar desert. The dunes of sand on which the whole city is settled is a bright yellow and because of which it is often called the the Golden City or the Golden City of Thar. Tourist visit Jaisalmer throughout the year, but mostly between October and February. During this time period, the sun remains mellow and visitors can easily roam about the place exploring different sites of attraction. Summers are harsh in Jaisalmer and very few people come around during that time. Those who visit the city in summer stay back at their accommodations. Years back, Jaisalmer was a princely state. The fort of Jaisalmer stands witness to its glorious and proud history. The fort received a 15 gun salute after the Rajput rulers signed a treaty about hundred years back with the British. The city was founded by king Maharawal Jaisal Singh in 1156. The grand sight of Jaisalmer fort is worth a visit for all those who take pride in the rich history and royal kingdoms of the country. It is surrounded by lanes of 99 bastions in which now a number of shops have been opened. The fort looks amazing during the night as if a huge work of art crafted in fossilized amber has been preserved over the course of time. Jaisalmer hotels are situated in proximity to the fort and some of them are quite exotic in themselves, such as the Fort Rajwada. The caravan of camels who act as the means of transport for traders are a treat to watch. You also can take a camel ride, which a popular recreation for tourists who visit Jaisalmer.
