The Magnificent Kefalonia

Kefalonia is one of the world's amazing travel locations if you want to do away from the busy city life. Named after King Kefalos, a legendary king in the Kefalonian Mythology, this island over the years has grown into popularity as one of the tourists destinations around the globe.

With an area that stretches more than 900 km2 and a coastline not less than 250 km, Kefalonia is truly the Ionian Sea's biggest and island. The magnificence of Kefalonia was brought by its unique culture, rich history, amazing monuments, breathe-taking mountains and castles, relaxing beaches, and more.

Cephalonia or Kefalonia, though the biggest island in the Ionian Sea, remains to be unspoilt. Above the island is Mount Ainos with a highest peak of about 1600m. If you are planning to go to Kefalonia for their beaches then you will not be disappointed as the island has no less than 10 beaches. They have even been awarded the blue flag status due to the maintained safety and cleanliness of their beaches.

One of the interesting places to explore is the town of Argostoli which is located at the south western area of the island and has been regarded as the central capital of Kefalonia. With romantic restaurants, cosy bars and charming cafe's, the town of Argostoli should be on top of your list for places to visit in Kefalonia. If you are a seafood lover, then the island is perfectly suited for you as this is what Kefalonia is famed for. You can choose to dine in one of their marvellous seafood restaurants or if you wish to cook what they have to offer then you can buy directly from the local fishermen. But if you are staying on the island in one of the villas either on the outside or inside the town for more than a night, then you can prepare a seafood banquet for your family or for yourself.

Another crowd-pleasing destination is the Fiskardo village that is situated at the northernmost area of the Kefalonia Island. What this village community has to share is the history of the island, a glimpse of the ancient Kefalonia. It features some of the original Venetian buildings which are still standing today. The town may seem serene and quiet at first but it becomes alive during the evenings as a lot of the local and foreign tourists share the glamorous taverns, inns, and restaurants. If you are one of those tourists who prefer to have privacy and not crowded place, then the Fiskardo village is the place for you as they have low amount of tourists and visitors compared to the other places on the island.

Spending even one day of holiday on the island of Kefalonia can re-energize your body and free yourself from the stress brought by your work and the city life itself. There are still a lot of places in Kefalonia that are worth checking out. I'll just end the article right here as the list of places to go will go on and on. I'll leave it to you to discover the magnificent Kefalonia and what it has to offer for tourists like you.
