The Most Remarkable Touristic Site of Zagreb in Croatia

The country enjoys some wonderful beaches and several notable monuments which attract many travelers to spend their vacations in Croatia.

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and the country's largest cities with more than one million inhabitants. With such a distinctive geographical location, linking middle Europe with the Adriatic Sea, the city is the political, economical, and cultural hub of Croatia. Zagreb also welcomes thousands of tourists who spend their holidays in Croatia.

The history of Zagreb goes back to the Roman era between the 1st to the 5th centuries AD. However, the first time the city was titled Zagreb was in 1904. Formerly, Zagreb consisted of two towns; clergy and Zagreb Cathedral. Ban Josip Jelacic united the two towns in 1851. Zagreb was also one of the most important cities of the Yugoslavian Union. When Croatia gained its independence in 1991, it became the capital of the country. Zagreb today is one of the most popular touristic destinations where many vacationers who spend their holiday in Croatia explore.

The Croatian capital enjoys a wide variety of touristic attractions and it is considered one of the most wonderful European capitals. Zagreb has some wonderful historical sites and natural parks that grab the attention of several tourists who travel to Croatia.

Plitvice Lakes National Park

The Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most distinctive natural parks of Croatia. Located 140 kilometers to the South of Zagreb, the park has a surface area of more than 30 Hectares and it welcomes more than one million visitors every year. In 1979, UNESCO included the Plitvice Lakes National Park to the Natural Heritage List. The park is one of the most attractive places to explore for tourists who spend their vacations in Croatia.

The secret of the beauty of the Plitvice Lakes National Park is the six lakes the park hosts. This is in addition to a number of quite amazing waterfalls with some of them being 70 meters high. There are also some mountains that offer amazing hiking experiences with some of them being around 1200 meters high. The Plitvice Lakes National Park also houses a number of wonderful animals like wild bears, deer, and wolves. A visit to the Plitvice Lakes National Park is included in various travel packages to Croatia.

It is worth mentioning that the Plitvice Lakes National Park has been an attraction as early as the end of the 19th century. The first hotel to be established in the park was back in 1896 and in 1949 the Yugoslavian government transformed it into a national park. Today, the Plitvice Lakes National Park welcomes numerous tourists who travel to Croatia.

The Cathedral of Zagreb

The Cathedral of Zagreb is the highest building of the city and one of the most important landmark and historical site. Featured with its two towers which can be spotted from any section of the city, the construction work of the Cathedral of Zagreb began as early as the 11th century. The cathedral is featured with remarkable decorative elements and ornaments including its colored ceiling and wonderful tints. Many travelers who spend their vacations in Croatia, especially those who are fond of history and architecture, are quite interested to explore the Cathedral of Zagreb.
