The Torres Del Pain has acquired a global reputation as one of the best places to go for a trek. Many people come to the conclusion that trekking is the only activity that is possible in this beautiful paradise. However, it is not so. The Torres del Paine Park is good for hiking but there is plenty more one can do besides just interminable walking day in and day out. Consider all that one can do inside the park.
Hiking for a week in the Torres Del Paine may not be to everyone's taste even though the scenery is great. A day trip is just perfect in which you can go travel on a boat. The Refugio Grey is the right place to get into a kayak and then paddle your way to the Grey Glacier's face. There is an alternative in the form of kayaking on the Rio Serrano and Rio Grey with the added joy of gliding past ice floes and small icebergs. You can choose to make it a hectic activity or just put the paddles aside and let the waters rock you gently. Make it a one day trip with a journey from one point to the other or a multi-day trip exploring the Serrano and its tributaries.
Why trek on foot when there are horses to make it even more enjoyable and cover more distances in a day? The ride alongside the lakes is breathtaking with the Paine Massif looming in the background. One can just as well canter or trot at leisure to the Glacier Dickson, camp in the open and have a wild-west like an experience. If you would much rather prefer biking then mountain biking is a great thing to do in the Torres W trek to discover the beauties of Ascencio Valley and pedal up to the Paine lookout point. Biking on the single Track is another option.
If walking on green pastures seems somewhat mild then there is always the glacier moraine where you can undertake a tough trek or, better still, put on crampons and ice hike on the Glacier Grey.
The Torres del Paine is not just about hiking, cycling, kayaking or horse riding. One can just spend a whole day in any of the campsites dotting the area or in a nice hotel and then spend the day going to the nearby lakes for fishing and angling in the lakes. One can spend a few days in peace, rest and relaxation. The Torres is perfect for photographers due to its mix of mountains, lakes, rivers, undulating landscape, rich sunrises and sunsets and the glaciers. Pumas can be found in the Torres Del Paine and there are puma tracking trips that photographers and non-photographers alike will love. Sight them and your day is made.
The beauty of Torres Del Paine is that it has an abundance of nature's beauties and each day brings something different. The weather keeps changing and a few hours of warm sunshine could be interspersed with snow or rain further adding to the enjoyment of the trip.
