The Sea, the Sun, the Sand – The Magic of Phuket

A combination of beautiful beaches and awe inspiring mountain ranges, Phuket is the largest island in Thailand. The island measures 590 sq. kms. More than half of Phuket is covered by mountains, with the plains occupying about 30 pct. During the 17th century English and Dutch explorers discovered that Phuket contained rich tin resources resulting in the island become a booming mining industry manned by Chinese laborers. Two of the well known parks are the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park which has the last of virgin rain forests; and Sirinath National Park which has a saltwater swamp and mangrove forest. The better known beaches in are the Patong Beach, Kata Beach, Kata Noi Beach and Rawai – all located in the south of the island. In the north there are the Surin, Kamala and Bang Tao. To the south and southeast of one will come across the Similan Islands and the Phi Phi Islands where one can get to see the diverse marine life, Phuket is home to.
