Bangkok is one glittering and sparkling Asian destination that is known for its plenty of attractions. It is the haven of plenty of temples and Wats that have always captured the attention of people from all around the world. Although the list is very long and a single writing would not be sufficient to describe all, but one of the most popular and must-visiting ones is Wat Pho that is located in Phra Nakhon district and it is a Buddhist temple that shows its grandeur and magnificence in complete form. It is well settled adjacent to the Grand Palace in the Rattanakosin district and serves to be a genuine attraction for a large variety of locals as well as the foreigners. The official name of this temple is Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhlaram Ratchaworamahawihan but the place is very popular world-wide with the name of the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.
The temple has been named after an Indian Monastery that served to be the living place of Buddha. Before the temple was founded, this site was used for traditional Thai medicine and there were plenty of statues that showed various yoga positions. The history dates back to 1767 but after that many changes occurred here. It is one of the largest and the most ancient Wat of Bangkok that leaves many people in awe. Covering the land area of more than 80,000 square meters, it is very popular for featuring more than one thousand Buddha images. Though they are being served as very sacred areas for the locals but all those travelers who grab cheap flights to Bangkok just love to visit them and are highly inspired by the magical and appealing architecture of each one of them.
The Reclining Buddha is the most famous one, it's the largest one that has the length of almost 160 feet. Bisected by Soi Chetuphon, the Wat is categorized by two walled compounds. The southern walled compound is known for the Buddhist monastery that has a school and here the monks reside where as the northern walled compound is popular for the massage school and reclining Buddha. Guarded by Chinese giants that are made up of large pieces of stones, there are sixteen gates around the complex.
The outer cloister is known for highlighting images of 400 Buddhas and they are varied by different postures and styles. The image of Reclining Buddha has the height of more than 15 meters. The temple is also very popular for being the first public university of Thailand that has taught the students about literatures, science and religion. One of the earliest Thai massage schools is also associated with this site. There are many diagrams that show the energy pathways and the Therapeutic points- 60 plaques have been inscribed, 30 for back and 30 for front in human body but the complete research has still not done. It is genuinely one notable allurement of Bangkok that you should see, once you plan a trip.
