Tips For Effortless Climbing During Bike Tours

When it comes to bike tours in Italy, it is all about climbing up hills. The country is known for splendid panoramic views of the Dolomites and other mountain ranges that the cyclists from across the globe come to experience. However, if you are a first-timer, it would not be that easy to climb effortlessly. Here are some promising tips for you.

Climb in low gears

This is particularly significant on long hills. By starting the ascent in a gear that lets you spin lightly, your muscles will be spared for the harder work ahead. Keep a good pace in the same gear, or shift to the next higher one and really make time.

Meanwhile, the ones who begin climbing in a relatively high gear will fatigue and start reaching for an easier gear and seem to be going backward as you spin by. If necessary, change your 23-tooth cog to a 26 or 27 for rides with plenty of hills.

Cut the weight of your bike

Climbing is mainly a fight against the weight of your equipment and your weight, so anything you do to reduce the weight of your equipment will make bike tours Italy to hills easier. For instance, replacing your gel-padded saddle with a titanium-rail light saddle model saves about half a pound.

Replacing both hubs' steel quick-release skewers with alloy or titanium versions spares about 3 ounces. Having your next repair of wheels built with alloy spoke nipples instead of brass will save several ounces, and you can also choose lighter tires, spokes, and rims.

Sit as long as possible

On all but short and steep hills, you will climb faster and more efficiently if you stay in the saddle. Standing makes your back, arms and legs work a bit additional to support your body, and this will certainly increase the use of energy and oxygen.

However, a few strokes out of the saddle can without any doubt help relieve muscle fatigue in the middle of a long hill, and on the steep pitches, you may need to stand to keep the crank turning. But when given the choice, stay seated as much as possible.
