Athirapally Waterfalls: This most popular waterfall of Kerala is located at the distance of 47 kilometers from Trissur. Owing to its massive spread across the cliff off which it jumps, it is the largest waterfall in Kerala and also the most majestic one, hence its nickname: “the Niagara of India”. One of the most picturesque waterfalls in India, Athiraplaay, with its 80 feet fall, originates in the Anaimudi Mountains of Western Ghats. It is situates midst Sholayar forests on the serpentine Chalakudy river, hence proves to be an exhilarating trekking experience. A little far away from Athirapally and formed on the same river, is another waterfall equally majestic called Vazhachal. It is located at the distance of 20 kilometres from the town of Thodupuzha in the district of Idukki.
Dhoni Waterfalls : If you are really serious about trekking and do not wish to mix it with picnicking, then Dhoni waterfall awaits you. Such is the suitability of this place for trekking enthusiast that simply to reach the waterfall you will have to take an adventurous trek of three hours from the base of the mountain. It is located at the distance of 15 kilometers from Palakkad. Though the waterfall is comparatively smaller than the rest of its counterparts in Kerala, the trekking experience that it offers is highly incomparable!
Cheyappara Waterfalls: This waterfall, located on the Kochi-Madurai highway, is ideal for trekking for the water here falls in multiple steps creating a sight worth watching at least once in a lifetime! At the same time it is an ideal site for trekking just like Thomankuttu falls: you can spend hours in exploring the beauty of this waterfall through a trek that does not exhaust but energizes.
Tushargiri Waterfalls: This waterfall comprises of three waterfalls formed on the waters of the river Challipuzha. The highest of these waterfalls, located at the distance of 50 kilometers from Kozhikode, falls from a thunderous height of 75 metres making it worth visiting. It requires a splendid trek lasting 5 kilometres to reach the origin of the stream through the misty spray generated by the cascading fall of the water which gives the fall its name: Tushargiri, literally meaning 'the mountain of sprays'.
Meenmutty Waterfalls: It is located at the distance of 29 kilometers from Kalpetta in Wayanad on the Ooty main road. This waterfall presents picturesque scenery and great trekking experience simultaneously as one has to undertake a trek of two kilometers through the evergreen enchanting forest just to reach the waterfall. It is yet another waterfall that mesmerizes you in multiple steps as it falls not once but thrice from nearly 1000 feet. Thus you can set out on a trek that would resemble a treasure hunt, discovering one stage of the waterfall after another and that will fill you with immense pleasure of adventure and natural beauty simultaneously.
Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls: Located at the distance of 18 kilometers from Kottayam, this scenic waterfall snakes its way out through rubber plantations. As such the trek at this waterfall is much more suitable for children and the old alike, thus making it an ideal trekking destination for a family.
Palaruvi Waterfalls: This waterfall, which literally means “The Stream of Milk”, jumps from the hilltop for a fall of breathtaking 300 feet making it a must visit tourist destination. It is situated at the distance of 75 kilometers from Kollam on the Kollam-Shenkottai road. As the pool generated by this waterfall is comparatively shallow, it is ideal for a picnic with the family and children with no need to worry about safety concerns.
