Why You Should Visit National Library of The Kingdom of Morocco

Architectural Quality:

Firstly for the architectural quality of the building that shelters it. They were two young Moroccan architects who designed it: Abdelouahed Mountassir and Rachid Andaloussi. The building is made up of three cubic volumes protruding and of course of the high tower of 28 meters, Nested at the foot of the butt of the Belvedere in its extension. The designers drew on Oriental art to imagine it.

From the Ibn Khaldoun Avenue, an urban square welcomes you lined with plantations and the floor treated with refinement. Once past the porch, an inner street with white marble floors distributes workspaces, consulting rooms or service trays on either side. The layout of the Belvedere garden that dominates the building has inspired the designers, it creates this feeling of fusion of the site with the decor.

The BNRM draws its light in the patios, real Riads that punctuate the interior spaces. Here no mirror is needed to return the sun. The natural luminous atmospheres thus created allow an intellectual work under particularly agreeable conditions that obscure fatigue and facilitate reflection. The link with the traditional Moroccan heritage has been particularly well restored: the opening on the sky resumes the typology of the Andalusian garden and Must see the place in your Morocco holidays.

In total, it is more than 20 000 m2 of surface, a magnificent tower of 11 floors which recalls, of course, the Hassan Tower but with its own identity and which shelters within it, in movable shelves, more than 340 000 works of which 60 000 manuscripts and rare books and which has a special air conditioning to ensure the preservation of these valuable documents.

Whether you are looking at rare works, Moroccan or foreign periodicals or newspapers, or simply sitting there, you will appreciate the materials used to make this public building: steel and brushed aluminum, white marble, rare carpets, thick carpets in warm colors, quality Moroccan carpets, soft leather and frosted glass.

The interior architects have achieved a remarkable feat: high technology is omnipresent, yet it is erased and it is scarcely noticed so much that it blends into the setting.

Cultural And Artistic Events:

Second reason for making the BNRM a priority: the Library hosts several cultural and artistic events: conferences, round tables, film screenings, and exhibitions of works of art … You will be surprised to find there a surprising tranquility especially conducive to reflection, in excellent conditions of comfort.

You can also consult 60,000 books in free access, novels, essays, books of history, science, geography, economics, sociology, anthropology, psychology … The library also includes a periodical space, Including a large number of magazines and newspapers, including more than 10,000 titles of old and new magazines, all of which can be consulted, as well as 1,800 Moroccan and foreign newspapers, some of which have more than 50 years of existence.

Cafeteria of Library:

The library also has a cafeteria on a beautiful shaded terrace, where you can enjoy a drink or even a meal with a superb view of the city of Rabat, in the extension of the test garden, which is a few dozen meters away.

Superb Graphical Area:

Finally, leaving this magnificent building, and taking the monumental staircase decorated by a superb graph, you can rest or extend your readings in a welcoming setting, a beautiful garden, in the shade of palm trees and Ficus which once constituted what were called the Gardens of the Belvedere.

Before adding a 6th reason: you will have come in Morocco Holiday Packages by tram and you will have enjoyed this silent transport that suits so well the City of Rabat and the BNRM. This unique cultural facility, without comparison in Africa, was well worth a detour because it represents the international reputation of contemporary Moroccan architecture: tradition, modernity, and futurism.
